I want to get a video camera for my high speed RC crashes. I'm building a race track and I would like a high definition camera that is cheap that has a long run time. I was thinking about getting the GoPro because of its versatility. What kinds of video cameras are you guys using?

GoPro Hero 3 Black and a Sony HDR-CX150.

A GoPro is not versatile in a sense where it can manage to get more than one style of shot. They are meant for one thing: getting beat up on in a first person view, and managing to get picture and/or video along the way. They are capable of capturing video and/or pictures in different settings, but at that point it's like using a crowbar as a toothpick.

If getting first person view shots of the carnage and crashes on your track is what you want (and only what you want), a GoPro is a great way to go.

remember gopro is only for close up action due to its fisheye lens. if your camera isnt 3-5 feet from the car all the time its not really what your after.
if you plan on filming racing cars/crawlers from a fixed position i would suggest a more traditional camcorder. preferably with 60fps+ if you plan to do slowmo of the crashes.
if your subject gets 10-20 feet away on a go pro its like watching ants on google maps.
ideally a good video needs shots from both a gopro and camcorder perspectives. but thats gets so pricy :(

Is there a decent 60 frame per second plus camera that you would reccomend that's budget friendly? I'm hoping to find something in the 250/- price range.
Thanks!

Canon has the Vixia HF R400 which is on sale for $250 at BHPhotovideo.

Full HD video recoding at 60fps (can change to 30fps if desired). Records directly to SD cards, so no having to mess with internal hard drives and extra cabling. Good amount of optical zoom (higher the number, the better): true optical being 32x.

I'm cheap........

I use:

iPhone4 with Optrix case, mount and wide angle lens (awesome lowbuck alternative to GoPro if you have the phone - less fisheye effect)

Casio Exilim EX-FH20 for 210fps shots (quality only so-so but cheap camera)

Canon Rebel T3

808 keychain camera #3

Hotwheels Video Racer (low quality but armor and easy mounting - got mine for $15)

I used to have an old Aiptek Action HD camera. Worked good till the screen went out. Good 60fps quality that looked great mixed down to 30fps. Not bad on price, either.

HUGE fan of the Canon Vixia series. on my second one now.
wow i had no clue you could get a 60fps Canon at that price. nice find!

 Me either.

But B&H is my go-to online photography/video source, and five minutes later I came across that. Seems like a nice little video camera. I have never used a Canon camcorder, but the reviews are promising.

i use the kodak playsport zx5.. it was cheap at 160.00 at walmart, you can take video in 10ft of water with no problems.. its awesome... they will mount on any regular tripod with the screw on the top and it uses SD cards.. it has the anti-shake thingy on it so if your hands shake like a mofo it makes your video look professional.. haha.. it will record in 1080p and is mp4 files.. i use windows live media for my editing... and it will take pictures too, its about the same size as a cell phone:flipoff:

i have a 16gig SD card in it right now and can take up to like 4 hours of video, plus i have a 4gig and a 2gig cards as well..

Has anybody tried the cheap sunglass cameras on ebay? It seems like a good idea to me, but I don't want to waste my money if the picture quality is crap.

Not being able to swap batteries is kind of a deal breaker. It was sounding awesome until I got to that.

the pinhole lens is not going to be what your looking for. similar to key chain cameras. just wont be able to touch the quality of a full size lens camcorder.
but could be awesome if you looking for a ok quality, cheap youtube camera. if your looking for a higher quality picture, its probly not what your after.
