What did you do to you SCX-10 today?

Because the plastic spur is a cheap fuse. And if your mesh is set correctly you shouldn't have an issue..especially if its 32p

disassembled the tranny and inspected every gear; everything looked fine.
I reassembled the whole unit and turned the spur by hand, sounded fine.
Reinstalled the tranny and drove it across the room, knocking sound is back.

Guess I'll drive it until the damage becomes more obvious. :twisted:

Funny, both my 1:1 Wranglers had noisy transmissions, too.
Guess it's just a Jeep thing. :)

...look again
it usually starts with just a couple or few teeth rounded off...
as the idler gear doesn't always look visually destroyed.

Tho' less likely...
Could be something else in the drive line...
check the splines on the male drive shaft...
be sure those are not twisted or snapped off.

knocking ? or a intermittent clacking sound ?
The only time I ever heard my junk make knocking sounds...
...is when it was tumbling down a 30' rock embankment ;-)

So that's why I find so many Jeep's broke down on the trails :roll:

it's more probable to conclude that...
...it's a Jeep ownership thing.

And that ignoring the issue... doesn't make it go away :flipoff:

Let the boy have his fun with the brute after wp'ing the trans case.

Probably Sent Sitting On The Toilet...

"On the Rocks"

Little breaking in of the HH Crawlmaster Expert 13t! Went with 3s, CC-SW3 87/16 gearing, very smooth low end, nice wheel speed. Definitely like this combo.

hmm... I was assuming the gear would eventually strip, then I'd buy a replacement.
These little things won't break with enough force to mess up the stuff around them, right?

If the slipper is set properly...
it will not strip the plastic tranny gears.

But if that were set too tight...
and you tend to put it in a bind...
or just simply hammer down alot.
The idler gear is usually the first to go.

If a coupla' teeth of the transmission gears become rounded off
regardless of which of the three internal gears...
Then it's likely all three gears will become fubar and require replacement.

If one wishes to tighten or lock up the slipper...
then metal transmission gears are a plus...
and will likely survive more abuse.

But yeah...
something else in the drive line might give up 'da ship instead.

Once a tranny is made bombproof...
then the drive shafts are likely the next thing in line.

At $ 6 - 7 per plastic gear set...
it only makes sense to purchase the metal gears.
then... beef up the rest of the drive line as needed...

Or... allow the slipper to do it's job...
and simply control your throttle with more sensitivity ;-)

But if yer gonna beat on it...
better make it bombproof ;-) (JM $.02)

Today was the day! finally got most of my work done on my scx10 Jeep JK build (full build with pics coming sooner or later :D).

Parts Installed;
Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster Pro 27t, with waterproof ESC (runs great with my 6 amp 7.4v 2s lipo turnigy)
RC4WD 100mm King Scale Shocks
1.9 Pro10 Beadlocks with 1.9 Dick Cepec Mud Countries
Rc Tough Armour Stubby Front Bumper and solid rear bumper (both with shackle mounts)
Rc Tough Armour Side Bars
Vanquish CMS and bumper mount kit, with RC4WD Twister waterproof servo
Axial aluminum steering link upgrades
Vanquish 12.00" wb titanium links (shorter wheelbase for proline jk body)

Other work;
Waterproofed the receiver (now the car is fully waterproof :D)
Moved the battery a little bit further back to fit the new body
New body arms, but still thinking about velcro instead

Still to do;
Paint the Proline JK body
Install black aluminum fenders on body
cut back the chassis

Still to buy/install/do;
New c-hubs, knuckles and lockouts (either vanquish or axial aftermarket)
MIP Driveshafts
Maybe Mickey Thompson MTZ's (depending on how the dick cepecs fit and look on the JK body.
POSSIBLY Vanquish axle housing (if i win the lottery anyway lol)

I welded up a roof rack for my rig."thumbsup"

Got some inspiration to build a better front bumper. I'm not done yet but it's a start.

Painted the body of my new Dingo. I love building kits but ugh trimming/painting i do not look forward to. I was going for something close to OD Green but I think tamiya PS-9 is a little darker but i still like it.
