Was RCC Down?

Myself n twade were talkin about this the other night. If rcc goes down, the only two options worth a go is either start a new forum, or jump over to SBG. Either way, we lose everything we have here. So much info n so many awesome members/family here. Ive only talked to majority of yall on here, some have my number, but still consider yall as family.

I really hate seein this place goin down hill like it is. Ive only been here for 6 yrs now, give or take, n ive learned ALOT from everybody n still learnin new things today. Fingers crossed, things change for the better around here

I feel the same way. Too much good stuff here to just let it all die!

Sadly the owner appears to neither want to give up the keys nor wants to renovate the place.

Yep, sadly!

I may not post much.Ya'll are way smarter/knowledable than me but, this is the first place I stop EVERYDAY. Hell, I haven't even driven an RC in over a year. I just enjoy the place.

I too stop in everyday. I enjoy the reads and try to add when I can. Logging in here is my escape from all of the real world schilt that we all have to deal with everyday!

It's coming. Not being a negative Nancy. However, its inevitable with the rise of the RTR, Facebook became the go to place for life answers and all crawler related stuff.
Also it doesn't help when people that try and ask people for advice just get a response like "just google it" which is funny that in alot of situations you google it and it ends up bring you right to rcc lol. I have been a member for years and am glad to be a part of! For me at times rcc is like when I was younger and wanting opinions or advice about automotive work I would always ask my older brother, uncles, etc or get me a Haynes manual. Alot of mainly the younger generation are use to seeing what is "hot" or what everyone else is doing and the creativity isn't there as much imo.

If the keys would get handed over, there could be a lot of positive outcome to this place. Clean up a lot of the dead links/pictures/empty threads, posts. You pretty much have to google anything, because the search function on this forum hasn't worked in forevermore iirc

Search works find for me.

Personally do not believe the above common go-to reasons guessed are the reasons for the slow times on the forum.

Instead:……..

Hobbies rise and fall due to economy and world happenings. They have run the same course aside the happenings in the world around us since forever.
The two world wars brought a super lock down on hobbies and when mind set changed but wallets were still empty, along came the boom of interest in elaborate HO scale train sets and slot cars.

Toys are always first to go in times like this and always the first to return in peoples lives when the world changes back to some semblance of what all consider “normal” again.

In plump financial times people tend to set their hobbies aside thinking they will always be there when they need them. And instead of investing time in their hobbies they go on large vacations, complete the large repairs, remodels and or additions to their homes and businesses.

In tight times financially hobbies tend to thrive!!! Human nature has people wanting and NEEDING to occupy their brains and time with something “feel good”, albeit times with their buds crawling and a few cold beverages, or even simply time spent building to show off their builds and projects to again feel happy and shiny inside!!

But where we are currently in times of fear and uncertainty…..
people tend to freeze up.
Overall they skip their much wanted vacations…
They skip the new pool or remodel of their living room or addition to house etc…
They over tighten the locks on their wallets and bank accounts to even their loved hobbies in fear of spending too much and needing it for necessities of life…
And not only do they put the lock down for financial reasons, a great part of the freeze on hobbies is human guilt.
People tend to feel bad enjoying themselves with their hobbies when so much uncertainty exists in their lives and world around them so they strangely begin to self-punish themselves with a lock-down on any personal self gratification with spending and especially their hobbies.
Again, knowing they have the power at any time to pick back up where they left off with hobby and friends it makes the sidestepping of their hobbies not a big deal to most.

I can nearly promise with 100% certainty the forum isn’t dying or going anywhere due to the owners actions.
There honestly isn’t much the owners can accomplish in times like current except to set back and ride the wave.
Sure they could make some changes and or wiggle things around here and there….. but in times like current with world happenings, there’s honestly not much at all anyone can do to change the forum here or the action and traffic it receives until current events in the world dictate a change.

We just gotta be patient and wait the wait while we all ride the ride.
We will come out the other side with controllers in hand like we always do, but it is going to be a bit of rough road and slowed activity until people in general settle down and feel good about spending time and money on their hobbies.

I don't believe their actions are hurting the forum, but their inactions might be. In an online world that never stops changing you have to innovate, and in 2024 RCC still has the same landing page with highlights from Axialfest 2017. That's just one obvious example and I remember other folks pointing it out years ago. Maybe the owners are hard at work behind the scenes, I have no idea, but the user experience you get logging in certainly makes the place *feel* abandoned.

I can relate to the "abandoned" feeling. I had a calendar reminder pop up on my phone - "Time to renew the RCCrawler membership". What happened? Used to get a reminder from the forum it was time to renew. Not this time and maybe not for a couple of years iirc. I'll renew some time today when I have a minute.

I guess I should go to the rant page but the membership reminder got me thinking so I'll post it here. I'm seeing a lot of regular "members" posting but not showing the green membership star. Come on guys, with hundreds or more dollars invested in a single rig, $20 shouldn't be too much to ask to support the forum. I know, it's been said many time by members, "What do I get back for my $20". Well . . . . . . . . .

I don't post a lot of stuff but I usually check out what's going on once or twice a day. If the forum goes down permanently, I'd be missing one of the more enjoyable things I do each day.

The renewal feature is f'd up. You have to pay and then DM or email 1badjeepbruiser to get your membership updated. I am sure many can't be bothered. Hopefully it hasn't become a headache for Mike, who so graciously puts up with it

Thanks smog. I tried 8 or 10 times to re-up and kind of figured something was haywire.

I apologize for my rant in my original post. I guess I'm one of those who won't be a paid up member until things get straightened out. I'll add a reminder to my calendar to check once a week and see if anything changes.

^ This.
This site runs on software that was at end of life in 2012. vBulletin is currently at version 6x. If they can't be arsed to pony up for a newer version and have people actually be able to make changes. Why then, should we the users keep paying to keep the lights on?

The forum went down twice...both times I texted John/Badger and he got it back up. There is a lot membership doesn't know here but the lack of inaction or support from the ownership definitely is hurting this place...

The forum is so out of date the email system hasn't worked in years, that is 100% on them and at their power and will to correct that...

The star system has been turned off...due to the site being so out of date, the automated star system failed to give people their stars. Thise members got pissed (rightfully so) and in return filed paypal claims...this then had the powers that be shit can the link...No stars...no money supporting the site so now its all on the annoying AF ads...

I still do what I can here...but at this point it just is what it is...

This response from another thread says it all:

Thanks Jato! Was a pain to get forum registration to work, but happy to finally get through via tapatalk app.

If trying to register through the website, whatever you do, don't fall for the complete registration link/ad that comes up on the next page. Literally cost me two cancelled credit cards. I tried about 20 times over about a 30 day period to register via the rccrawler.com website. Emailed "support" after many unsuccessful attempts. No response. Finally downloaded the tapatalk app on my phone and registration worked flawlessly without the need for moderator intervention (I think). Anyway, I'm happy to be here, finally.

It's pretty cool that people are still registering here. I just love how exclusive this forum is.
