Capra transmission

Can someone recommend a transmission for my Capra? I see three gear talked about but can’t find a specific one. I want to gear it down and slow this thing down a bit. I am going to get the overdrive gears in the front portals but want to slow it down. I’m new so if I’m missing something let me know

I'm still running the stock capra transmission with a 10t pinion. You have to file the slots a bit to get the proper mesh. Some people go all the way down to a 9t but with the motor I have it is already very close to the housing so making the slots longer wouldn't solve that interference issue. Not sure how the 9t is done.

Then I put under drive ring and pinion in the rear axle. If I remember correctly it was a vanquish ring and pinion. Stock is 30/8. I think the vanquish was 33/8.

If you overdrive the front it is going the wrong way a bit.

I'm not doing competitions and drive out the trail to the rocks so I don't want it too slow though so your use may be different.

I also use the dig function of the original transmission and do not have 4ws.

Maybe I will leave the front alone and just under drive the back. I’ll get a pinion coming for it tonight. I don’t do any comps, only had the truck for a week and this is my first 1/10. I mostly just crawl and don’t really do any trail stuff.

I cheated. I replaced the skid with a Salinas Designs (no longer around, Vader is the closest to it now) and ran an Element X transmission - Which had a build in Overdrive/Underdrive which could be changed. I chose to overdrive front, underdrive rear. The Element X trans does not have Dig.

I have have an original capra transmission with a 10t pinion running straight axles using a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1200kv and is very slow and controlled with enough speed to jump ledges. Stock servo. The SE is pretty affordable and likely cheaper than a skid and a different transmission set up and if you don't like it... well!!!! it can be moved to many other rigs (ESC and Motor combo).

the axial 3 gear transmission is everywere its been cloned and then clones of clones came out even upgraded clones of clones of clones lol
basicly any early axial transmission will work ax10/scx10 are the same you can also use a wraith transmission its just longer in the rear cause they made room for the 2 speed option
also in the same packadge you can get a dig setup that works better than the stock capra dig or counter rotating output shafts basicly if we can think it china can copy it lol

Speedy-triple makes a good point about motor/esc selection. If you have the rtr capra esc and motor then at the minimum upgrading the esc to a hobby wing 1080 and using their $10 programming card will help you get low speed driveability a lot better even without changing motors.

But the hobby wing fusion se motor upgrades both esc and motor and are really good for not much more. The $10 hobbywing programming card also works on the fusion motor/esc and usually sold separate.
