At the start of the year, I was planning a v1-c1 build. Thanks to winning a chassis giveaway from TRD adventures YouTube channel, I got a second v3 carbon chassis kit... can’t, not build it right?!

I decided to build it up as a Class 3 rig with Capra axles and a hurtz dig.

Gspeed v3 cf chassis kit
TJ rc skid
Gspd sliders
IERC rear cross brace
Gspd body post mounts
Gspd chassis spacers

VP 3-gear trans
Incision machined gears
Fast eddy bearings
VP slipper eliminator 52t spur
TFR carbon motor plate
Hurtz dig
Fish’s cf dig micro servo mount
Reef’s Micro 99 dig servo

Capra Front axle
VP locker w/ VP 30/8 gears
VP universals
GPM alum knuckle and cover
Incision OD 20/15 portal gears
VP stub shafts
Injora brass hex +3mm offset
Fast eddy bearings
VP servo mount
Powerhobby 729MBL steering servo
RC4WD Rancho drag link

Capra rear axle
Axial spool w/ ar45 30/8 gears
VP axle shaft w/ bb
Stock Capra 12/23 portal gears
VP stub shafts
Injora brass hex +3mm offset
Fast eddy bearings

InTheWorksRC links
Wild Boar driveshafts

Fly sky FS-BS6 rx
CC BEC
Holmes Silencer esc
TeamBrood Riot S 1850kv

That about sums it up, pics inbound...

Re: Capra axle, Gspeed V3 Class 3 build

I started with the tranny. I got everything mocked up and test fitted. I did have to shim the output gear .25mm to take the slop out. I’m pretty hardcore but I wouldn’t normally do this. However, the rear out put is a hex drive for the dig. I didn’t think to take a pic, but the drive dog for the dig is only held in place with a single set screw. It’s kind of important to keep that drive dog from floating so it doesn’t drag on the tranny case and spins freely.

Links went together fine and then started knocking together the chassis.

The axles were pretty easy. I do like the Currie style 3rd member, it makes shimming easier. Lubed with Red N Tacky and silky smooth. The VP rear axle shafts a nice, they make use of the bearing pocket and it really supports the portal gears so much better.

This is going to be a cool build! Very nice list of parts! Following and taking notes!:)

If I give into building one, my Capra is going to be pissed at me!:lmao:

After the axles where done, I moved on to the shocks. I'm using the Axial 100mm shocks that came with the AR45s axle conversion. I put a nylon 5mm spacer in the body under the piston and two o-rings on the shaft to act as a "jounce". I lubed everything with the ProTek Blue shock lube. I've always hated the sound of long springs over threaded shock bodies... I put some clear shrink tube over the body and blasted it with the heat gun. Just like other Axial shocks, there is some initial stiction, then they are pretty smoove.

Here are the ITW links as they were sent to me...

I placed an order for custom links and ordered 12.3wb set. Actual WB is closer 12.6. I'm ok with this since the dig should help me make up for lost turning radius. I also did not like the caster angle they chose. I put longer rod ends on both sides of the upper front links. I gained about an 1/8" and put me a lot closer to what I'm used too. If it drives like poo, I can go back to his recommended length. I also extended both rear uppers by 1/16". I think it'll shake out.

The dig servo -

I went though a few iterations of the set up before I settled on a final solution. I first ordered the STH Micro servo mount. Super nice piece and allows for direct bolt on with M2 hardware. It worked fine and felt solid in all positions, 4WD-FWD/N-FWD/Dig.

Once I went to install the Rx, I realized I wanted the servo to face the other way so I don't have to use an extension. The Fish's Crawler Parts CF Micro servo mount is a little longer and allows me to flip the servo. I was able to make a longer push rod and get a little better geometry on the servo horn. Wire is run between the motor and trans then wax lined into place to keep it clear of the outrunner and spur gear.

Took a little clearanceing to get the plat to sit how I wanted but I'm happy with it.

Now that electronics are lined up, its time to fit the body.

I'm a jeep fanboy and the Axial Wrngler G6 was in stock sooo... I got the Deadbolt cage for it and trimmed a little off the back for weight savings.

I had to cut the "fuel cell" out of the back to let the body sit over the rear shock towers how I want. I'm using the GSPD body post holders and posts from my
4-10 pro kit. I couldnt figure a solution to the rear until I saw B-Mows solution for the same issue. The frames were easy enough to drill and cleaned up nicely. I did add some 2mm spacers to bring the post inboard to hit the body how I want them to.

Cool build Lou. One of these days I want to build a class 3 with dig also, just to try something different. I love the dig in my Capra.

Looking good!"thumbsup" Great idea on putting the heat shrink sleeves on the shock bodies! I too hate the sound of springs rubbing on the threads! Idea noted and plan to copy!:ror:

Glad you posted a pic of you drilling the chassis rails for the body post mounts! I completely forgot to drill the extra holes in my chassis rails!:)

Sorry for the lack of updates! She’s been done but I’ve only had two short sessions with this rig. I need to go with heavier shock oil before axialfest but I think it’ll should be pretty boss.

Thank you! Yes, it will be getting custom bumpers. Unfortunately they have to wait till after axialfest but totally worth it. I love it so far and I can’t wait till it’s where I want it.
