TRX4 Sport Kit Build

Awesome pictures!

Love the contrast of your rig, the rocks and the foliage.

Man that place looks like a blast

Thanks! I went with a more "realistic color" with the Cherokee and I regretted it lol. This time around, I wanted something a bit more bold. I also came across this and figured I would try and replicate it lol. I still have a display body to paint...not sure when I'll ever get to that.

This location is great! If anyone is in the NY/NJ/CT area then you should check it out! Sprain Ridge Park, I'm always up for a crawl if anyone wants to meet up!

Hey guys, work has been keeping me busy. I want to start working on my rig again lol! I’m considering some new parts from LockedUpRC. I don’t have any prior experience with their parts. They are listed as “black steel” and it doesn’t explicitly state that they are stainless steel. This might be a dumb question, but wouldn’t regular steel rust?

If anyone has any experience with their “black steel” parts, I’d really appreciate your input/review!

LockedUpRC black steel usually has a black oxide coating, which does provide some rust resistance.

I imagine you might be looking at their TRX-4 Black Steel Portal Knuckles, and they do in fact list the finish as black oxide.

You can Google it if you want to know more, but as long as you use some sort of lube on the internals, they should do fine - and if they eventually get a little rusty on the outside, that's just more scale!

(I have some of their Agile beadlock rings in the black oxide finish, they look great, BTW)

Whenever I finish my other projects I plan on getting the full TRX-4 Black Steel Portal Package for my Defender.

I was actually looking at the C-Hubs. I figured it was just a black coating, but that seems like a part that can easily be scratched due to its location. The last thing I would want is for the coating to be scratched and the part to start rusting. I think I'll just go with the Samix brass C Hubs instead.

Thanks for the response!

Looks nice! Is that a Proline 2pc body? Can it go any lower? How did you mount the bed, any cutting needed?

Yeh, it's the two piece Proline SR5 body. It can't go any lower than that without cutting the bed. I didn't cut mine, I just ordered some straight mounting posts from Traxxas and slipped them in.

Also added some brass steering links a few weeks ago

Hey guys, quick question! I recently picked the Samix Brass C Hubs. I see they have mounting holes for the shocks on them. I can't seem to get a straight answer for this...but, what is the benefit of mounting your shock to the C Hub vs the stock lower mounting position?

In my case it was zero benefit.

I got aluminum c hubs with the built in shock mounts.

I’m running 110mm shocks and I was thinking that the chubs would allow for a lower shock mounting position than the stock lower mount. This way I could keep ride height down with longer shocks.

I was wrong on that one. The lowest c hub mount is identical to the stock lower shock mount.

Looks like you have set up a fun rig SB. Great pics"thumbsup" . You have a super crawl spot there.

Is the grill on that Yota a 3D print?

I noticed that, which is why the mounting holes on the C hub didn't make sense to me. I ended up putting the shocks back onto the factory mounting position. Thanks for the input!

Thank you! I've been adding some new mods slowly, and I'm about 80% done with the new body. I'll post some pics soon!

The grill is 3D printed, I ordered it from Shapeways.

That reminds me of the Toyota I built back in 2007.
