Nice Chris!! Looked good out there. I liked that you took it at Scale speed and throttle manipulation...
I've seen some guy's videos, where as soon as they get in a bind, they do a quick throttle mash, and bounce over and through....

But they don't get it, do they? If you pulled that crap in a Real Rig... You'd likely RIP an Axle out from under you - AND break your Spine!!
I may be new to Scalers, but I understood that concept in the first week!! :ror:
Really nice, seeing her run!

THAT would make the PERFECT Shelf Queen Body for your Rig!!! "thumbsup"
That's a crazy cool Body, with NO compromises. Wonder how much it would cost - if the file is even still available....

The 'highboy' 4x4 was a great rig - mine was a '76, owned from 79 to 89. Loved it.
Pulled the dog 360 V8 out and put a 390 in it - same block but the 390 was such a much better motor. Mine was a copper colored metallic. Very cool truck that would really haul the freight. We hauled a LOT of firewood, and hay for the horses.

I'm not really a hard-body guy so I wish someone would mold a lexan body that was close. Pretty please? :D

BTW, IIRCC I paid about $4000 for that truck, with not very many miles on it. I don't think it ever went over 100K miles. I think it had about 35K when I got it.
Times have changed, eh?

I'll see if I can dig up a pic or two. Would have to scan them.

:)

"Times have changed, eh?"

SURE HAS!! As a young idiot in the 80's, I had a Truck like that.... Paid $600 for it, and put about 80,000mi on that FE Block 360!! All I remember doing to her, was a valve job, 4-Barrel Intake with a 750 Holley, MSD Ignition, and a Comp Cams 272H - fo an extra $275!!!!

...... Got her at that price, because some Grease Monkey said it had a hole in a piston....
It just had a rounded lobe on the Cam!

Those WERE the days....

WHEN THE HELL DID RC NERDS DO 79 FORD STUFF?!?!?!

oh, for the proline ascender cab. NICE!!! "thumbsup"

looks like i need to contact them to see if i can get some slightly reduced prints so they could fit the J-concepts 79.

AND THEY HAVE A WHOLE GRILL!!!!!!!!
with front bumper and lights! 8)

awesome!
Ben thanks for posting that link to the 77 build!
that looks awesome and even though his is a 77 and 1/8.5 scale... its close!
between this and the Korean 79 that looks... ehhhh...

phase 2 is looking to take "shape" nicely!
now excuse me while i go make a login at SBG... ;-)

*the RCNerds 79 grill (with separate bumper, headlight lenses and blinker lenses)... ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

here is the whole 79 catalog from RCNerds 79 ford bits including the INCREDIBLE dashboard!

I NEED THESE IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

if proline released a bed for that cab... like they have all of the other cabs they've done... it would be an RC godsend. i'd probably buy multiples.
between all this and the traxxas bronco... its a great time to be a 79 ford fan!
when i started this, there was hardly anything, and now? oh man! if proline would just make that bed...

YES SIR...... It is indeed!!! "thumbsup"
I think we should all write Pro-Line, demanding a proper, at LEAST 3/4 Drop Bed, Bed!!! It really would be a HOT item!
If we wanted to push our luck, how about a Short AND Long Bed??!! ;-)

....... I forgot which conversation, but someone was looking for a Lexan, mid-late 70's F-150....
I had used the F-150 Body from Vaterra - for their model #F100 ON ROAD Car. It looked pretty good, and had Chromed Plastic Grille and Bumpers.

The only issues, it is a short Body (on average, 3/8" to 1/2" shorter Roofline than a Body MADE for a Truck). Also - the Body is pre-drilled!!!! I always prefer using my OWN method of mounting a Body - NO HOLES!!

carmine... you... might be on to something here...
mid 70's ford beds didn't change much up until the 80's.
if i were to cut the rear off a vaterra F series, and build a lexan cap for the front of it (nobody will see but its better than a gapping hole)...

its only a question of width. might be able to make a hybrid of the proline F series and the vaterra...

hangon...

google image powers activate...

eeuuuhhh... well, that might require more work than its worth. not as close to a 79 bed as i hoped. and the fender openings are way different, considering the liberties proline took for clearance.
gal_08.jpg

ok i guess back to praying to the RC gods in hopes proline does a 79 bed to compliment the cab. even if its a short bed, i could always buy 2 and lengthen it. even if that makes for a wicked wheelbase of like 13" it would still be cool.
but that v-100 bed... *shiver* nyahhh... solid pass.

Yeah Chris, I used it as a whole Body on my P402.... The Cab Roof was shorter, and the Body as a whole, was wider than about any Crawler Body. On mine, the ENTIRE 100mm 1.9"s fit under the Fenders completely!!
So, if someone was after THAT look....

The Vaterra Body was made for a Drifter. Since you do that too, you should have an idea of its "slightly unnatural" Body dimensions!
The actual F100 tucks 30mm wide Wheels under it!

From that Body, I still have the Chrome Rear Bumper.... if you want it! ;-)

well, i could always cut out the tailgate, and cut a few mm off of that and the floor, then put it back together. but just... ehhhh too much work for a "meh" outcome.
at this point I'm really just going to bide my time and hope proline releases a bed for the 79 cab. if they don't, I'm gonna pull the trigger on a 3D printed body.

thanks for the offer on the bumper, but sounds like it would be wide and look like a villainous cartoon moustache lol
i DO like the idea of wheels being swallowed up by super wide bodies, but not at the expense of making it look like a chop-top. that said, its all rolling on shortened CODYBOY axles, so my tires will tuck up nicely under any typical crawler body. mine stick out a little now because its on a skinny 7" wide monster truck body, actually making it closer to a 1:12 scale.

Yeah, I suppose you're right.... The Bumper was designed to fit a 9" wide Body!!...... I only know THAT, because I bought the Body. Vaterra gives you NO dimensions on it.

Soooooo... just patiently waiting here for gcm to restock the ascender stage 2 rear leaf kits at the usa store.

I may have accidenally challenged ernie to a build off to complete our current projects (my 79 ferd and his pow pow power wagon)?
Maybe even bring both to the proline event? Maybe? High hopes since lunsford will be there... no pressure ernie. But man that would be COOL!

I just need to figure out the camping part. I cant take my wifes grand cherokee cuz she would be stuck with my little scion frs and she hates that car lol maybe i could take my little rice burner up there and remt a camper near by? Just me and my son.

This is all a big "maybe"at this point, but i'd really like to go.
There is also the question of funding but i dare not discuss that outside the classifieds lol

So i will end this post by officially just saying in all caps...

ASCENDERS ASSEMBLE IN APPLE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA! MAYBE!
Oh and its called proline by the fire, may 19th and 20th. Just so we're clear on that.
Details on prolines facebook.
Should we start a thread with a poll? I would love to meet you all! *we should all wear cat shirts lololol
ASSEMBLE! MAYBE!

That sounds awesome!! Too bad I don't have an Ascender.... I'm about the same distance from Apple Valley as you are. Should be a fun event! I've never been to anything like that before, but I'm going to try to go to at least one.
I hope that Ernie takes up your challenge!!! That should be fun too.

Ok Chris, I may accept your unofficial challenge to show off our builds in Apple Valley.
Marcia and I are checking dates to see if we can make it work! So the pressure may be shifted back to you! ;-) And yes it would be fun and cool. I talked with Nate about going so see what you started!
