Topher Builds a SCX10.3

. The grill being precut out is something to be thankful for, that would have been tough to cut clean by hand. I’m excited to get this one painted and dressed up.

This will be my first rc car that won’t look like I used a lawnmower to cut my body!

No paint yet as most of my free time yesterday was spent swapping bead lock rings and brainstorming how I wanted to do the paint.

Went with the new proline 1.9 Interco TrXus tires, some SSD steel wheels to make sure I have clearance for the portal weights, and I swapped the rings to orange and the hardware to black. Running the ssd steel rotors for weight and detail.

RPP just restocked lil novas (thanks Jsterret!) so I have some of those on the way to stuff these with.

Looking good Topher. I been MIA for months but I too am stuck at home, thought I’d check out some of my old favorite builders new work.

Thanks Duke! Hope you’re doing well.

Great choice on wheels!"thumbsup"

Orange on black with black hardware looks awesome!

I'm really getting excited to see the body painted now!:)

The wheels look great!

Nice build thread. I also really like the motor mount and the fact that the grille is cut out for us!

You chose the same tires as me. Mine have been mounted on wheels for a while now since I was going to use them on a VS4-10, but decided they would be perfect for this build. And the wheels are red so I have decided to go with a paint color that you also mentioned - gun metal! :ror: No biggie at all though - just funny coincidences.

Which size foams are you using in the TrXuS?

I'm in agreement...the orange & black just "works".

Thanks guys! I changed the scale hub to silver for a little pop and am liking it. Going to get this one painted up today.

Tim, I won’t end up using any gun metal on this one anyway but it is funny we had similar thoughts. For foams I have the stock ones in there now but ordered some of the 4.5” lil novas medium outter and comp cut inner from RPP yesterday.

One more pic before paint...

If you want to add a little more "pop", what about swapping the black bolts/lugs holding the hubs to the wheels with silver bolts/lugs?

I like that idea. I’ll have to see if I have enough in the right size.
Or order some more, if you don't have enough. When things should "blend", make them blend...but, when things need to "pop", REALLY make them POP. [emoji16][emoji2957]

First batch of pics below "thumbsup"

I’ll have a flex shot in a few, this thing is flexy as heck.

Couldn’t get this one to post vertically with the rest.

Adding a pic of the Guy, I ended up using tooth picks and my daughter’s acrylic paint to get a face on him but it’s passable. I also matted the whole interior. For the clothes I sprayed a little bit of tamiya smoke (window tint) down first to give the clothes a worn/dirty look instead of straight clean red.

Body looks fantastic, nice job! Paint looks awesome and stickers are well balanced. Extra touches on the hood are trick.

I have to say, though...I'm not feeling the orange beadlock rings. Seems to me they clash with the body. My GF wrinkled her whole face up when I showed it to her and said, "Oh, no, honey!"

All that said it's an awesome looking rig and you should be proud of the work! "thumbsup"

Paint looks great! That body is solid as far as the details go. Those Truxxus MT's are dead ringers for the real deal.

I had to take a double-take! It looks like a 1:1 sitting in your driveway!:)

It turned out great!"thumbsup"

I'm glad you painted the black on the hood. When I first saw this body and was thinking about a paint scheme, I was wondering what painting black in the center of the hood would look like. I think it looks great and I plan to do the same!

Great job on the driver!"thumbsup" I like how these driver figures look in the videos I've seen so far. They looks realistic!

Thanks fellas! I appreciate the kind words and feedback. @2mtech the bead lock rings don’t bother me too much but I am going to try these on my gladiator body (when that eventually happens) which will have a metallic orange to see how it looks with those.

Here are a couple garage shots and flex pics. I was surprised how much flex this has out of the box. Lots of travel and clearance.
