tire options for yeti xl kit

I bought the kit, will be coming in soon. I was thinking of buying extra wheels ans tires will these pro-line trenchers 3.8 MT tires 40 series (the narrow ones) work?

Looks like pro-line Rock Rage will also work. And I've seen someone running mud slingers but the weight of the tires puts me off. Afraid it will break stuff early. Parts are hard to come by where I live.
 
Ya..all the 17mm 1/2" offset wheel and tire combos will fit and work but the diameter is small on all of them. It looks funny. And you'll need a larger pinion to keep your top end if you care about that. The kit's falken tires are the best tire out there right now for these RC trucks in my opinion. I am going to be selling off my Mud Slingers on F-11 wheels to buy the Falkens on what ever wheel I can find that has 1/2" offset and isn't brittle.
 
I love my mud slingers
but I don't run the same terrain as fordfreak95. More dirt snow, mud, and probably a lot slower with runs using 2S & 4S.

2S in tight quarters is "like" a low gear trans

I've got them on stock rims with the holes plugged and no foams. They grip really well but I haven't done much top speed high traction stuff and having to deal with traction roll overs. Without a rear swaybar they will eventually rub off the first part of the rear axial sticker though :shock:

They are just too dang heavy. My play ground is it though. I run it in giant open fields with some four foot jumps here and there...max four feet. There is a lot of dirt and gravel..no mud....All I can compare it to is running an obsticle coarse with steel toe work boots on.
 
Thanks for all the input guys. I'll stick to the stock Flakens untill something better comes along. First time gluing tires, hope it turns out okay, fingers crossed.
 
So I wanted to see what the weight differences were, here is what I found

Yeti XL rim & tire weights in ----grams / lbs / all Four in lbs

RTR tires--------------------------384.44g / 0.85 lbs / 3.39 lbs
mudslingers-----------------------522.85g / 1.15 lbs / 4.60 lbs
"Mud" foams-----------------------32.00g / 0.07 lbs / 0.28 lbs
muds w foam----------------------1.22 lbs
Difference between w/o foams---0.30 lbs
Difference between w/ foams----0.37 lbs
Total added weight w/o foams---1.21 lbs
Total added weight w/ foams----1.49 lbs


So nearly a pound and a half for all four if you have the foams in them.

They are taller and wider - for crawling / busting over terrain they work better than the RTR’s and a lot better than the stock Summit tires, probably due to the size of the lugs, haven’t compared them to the trenchers yet though.

But I could see if your running 6S it might be a concern. I'm going to try the RTR tires again to see if I notice the difference in agility. I put the Mudslingers on for the snow and have been using them since.

My big thing is that with a 200 oz-in servo it struggles to turn the tires unless you are moving :shock: so going to be installing the Protek 170T this weekend w/ CCBEC and that should take care of the slow lock to lock issue
 
LOL crawler this thing is not.

it flops around like a big limp cock, or a summit.


I am thinking of just locking the rear diff too. Maybe some jb weld or epoxy. That may help it "crawl"

Great info for when more rims an tires are available to compare to.

Just in case someone is reading this that is on the fence on buying one. This is not and was never designed to be a crawler. The Small Yeti buyers had the same beef with Axial. It is a "Monster Terrain Buggy". You see BIG 4" + rocks you slow down approach and then give it a little beans. You see small 2-4" Rocks and laugh while you go full throttle.
