The Shop Truck 79 F150

Not at the moment, but Ill take some tonight. Side by side it doesnt seem like much but when you put them on a vehicle with smaller wheel wells or that needs a shorter tires, the difference is night and day. I cant run stock heigh Irons or TSLs on the Bronco without issues and the 3.8s are PERFECT!!! In the game of scale, even 1/2 can make a huge difference! Its like goin from a 38" tire to a 42" in 1:1.
Matt

I ran full size flat irons when I had the tamiya bronco without a problem.

Not sayin you cant, but on my personally BlueBronco, stock height Irons and TSLs cause issues. They rub very badly and restrict the flex by quite a bit. The 3.8" tires still rub from time to time but only under extreme flex and at the end of what flex I have. Im gonna build another one day that will require an even smaller tire but thats another build for another build thread :lmao:

Matt

That is true. Even with my hpi bronco they rub a pretty good bit. I've learned to deal with it though. It's a scale rig. Anything more than what the body will allow is not scale. IMO.

Yeah, thats the other reason I stuck with 3.8" tires rather than 4.2, I didnt want to build a Bronco on 42s I wanted somethin smaller and the 3.8s LOOKED the part and work like a charm. Itll go anywhere any stock height TSL rig will! I still wanna put together a 35" tire that looks right for it one day.

I might have to do something similar. How big are stock highlift tires? Oh btw I know I keep saying I was going to go with the f-150 body. But after some small modifications I'm finally satisfied with my bronco so I think I'm gona keep it. I would like to maybe get some different tires though.

Tires can make or break a rig, looks and performance wise!!!

Little update on the ShopTruck

Finally bit the bullet and decided to decal this sucker up a little more like a Baja/Desert racer. Thanks to CallieGraphics for hookin me up with some 1 off AWESOME sponsor decals...and I think most of yall who know my rigs will agree that its fitting LOL

Im not done, and these are all temperary and subject to change at any time lol but I wanted to give it a look like a privately owned, sponsored Baja rig. Ive gotta make another order and get some more decals in but I like it so far.

Looks good. Definatly fits the baja style sponsor type truck. But what's up with the tires. They look like drift tires. I see no tread!

They are cut down and skinnied short course tires and they have as much if not more tread than some rc4wd all terrains, the camera just doesnt show it. They are good for dirt and pavement but suck on the rocks cause I made em so stiff. I have some other tires I'll use for crawling and trail riding!
Matt

Took a quick minute after work today (yeah I know sucks but I had stuff to do lol) and decided to see how the ShopTruck would do out on the trail. Slapped some old Irons on and hit up medical center cause its small, quick and nothing too technical.

I'm extremely happy with how she did. The open front made things interesting for sure but a little driving and you can get around just fine! This shakedown run showed me some areas I need to improve such as the electronics trays needing higher sides to keep the mud out etc. Now I just gotta work on the suspension some to soak up the rough stuff a little better and I'll be set!
Matt

Lookin good. Can't beleive I missed the update. Now you gotta get some pics of it drifting on a basebal field. And some cyclones. I used to love doin both those with my nitro buggy.

I look forward to hittin up some dirt very soon with it! We also have a couple "courses" in the woods we used to run in the shortcourse trucks, would be fun to see how well this thing handles them.

I would think it would probly handle it as good if not better. It isn't as wide as short course trucks so that may pose a problem with rolling on high g-force turns but I doubt it. I recently changed out the motor in my bronco and while it's not as fast as this rig it's fast enough to roll if I turn at high speeds. I also learned how much more you break while going fast. I had to fix a broken u.v joint within five minutes of getting it outside and then the set screw for the from shaft kept coming unscrewed and I ended up with a 2wd truck. Haha. Hella fun though. Can't wait to get it out to the beach. I was thinking about how you did an open diff type setup. If only there was a way to make a limited slip for rc's. That would greatly increase you capabilities while still having an unlocked front axle.

Im gonna mess with springs and diff oil weights and see if I cant get mine to act somewhat as a limited slip, but for now i just do all I can to keep both front tires on the ground and it helps alot.

Let us know how it works. If it does post up some pics of how you did it. I would be interested in using a similar setup in the bronco

I thought so too but I like it now cause the Logo has the white in it and without it you would just have words, not the actual logo. I almost ditched it cause the rest of the decals are in the red and I like it that way but I would have to get some smaller white "ShoeGoo" decals but again, I wanted to get the entire logo. Never know, one day itll prolly have all the decals stripped off if I decide to go back to a stock lookin truck but for now Im diggin it and itll look alot better when I toss some bumpers and maybe a spare tire in the back.

Went on a scouting mission this saturday to hunt down some new spots to crawl. Unfortunately, after 360 miles of driving (not joking) we came up pretty empty...but we DID find this neat 1/8 buggy track and I just had to bring the ShopTruck out and see if it could handle it. Being an 1/8 track its a little wide open for such a slow truck and some of the jumps (the first two you come across especially) were just a little too far apart to clear unless you let off the throttle. The rest I could clear if I hammered it and got enough traction. The track was very packed and slick as crap so the 3.5" tires I made were pretty slick. I eventually swapped the FlatIrons back on and grip was ALOT better!!! ANYways, heres a video with the 3.5" tires and a couple pics.

I was near the end of a battery pack and wanted to get a clean lap in for everyone but it just wasnt to be LOL Just like all my other rigs, as soon as the camera comes out, they like to flop.

I ran up against wayne's honcho and chevy for a couple laps and between rubbing fenders with him and hitting the gaurdrails I had a little bit of carnage.

Couple hard nose-dives later and I knew somethin needed to be removed

All in all...Im extremely happy with the speed, Im gonna toss a 20t pinion on and keep running the taller tires I believe which will up the speed just enough and then look at working with the suspension some. You can see that she jumps well and handles pretty decent but some tweakin will push it over the edge. We didnt find ANY rocks to crawl the entire rest of the day but did crawl a nasty hill for about 5 minutes and she did awesome there as well, again so long as I kept the front planted and picked my lines with caution. Im thinkin its time for some bumpers and to mess with the suspension, more updates will be added as they happen.
