The Shop Truck 79 F150

Thats the stance I want, lower in the rear than the front like a Baja style rig. Its leveled out since then with the weight of the electronics and some tweakin, but if anything I want it slightly lower in the rear in the end. Im waitin on the motor then itll be time to really get to tweakin!
Matt

Ive currently got a Mamba Max Pro, 10a Castle BEC, Sepektrum Receiver and a nice little Brushless motor comin from my motor guy . Ive got the velcro laid into the trays now and I cut some notches for a battery strap. I got to thinkin that velcro alone prolly wont be enough to hold the LiPo in when she gets to tumbling at speed lol. I have to go outta town for a bit but when I get back I will have the motor in and ready to start testing!

Looks sweet, I like the budget look of it, like something you could see nearly anybody build in real life and still have a load of fun with. I have my body as low as I can get it too, it can't go down anymore in the rear with the stock mounts lol. I'm running Lipo's now so I don't need to worry about the NIMH pack fitting up front (running it on the slider anyways). Also I'm running MTZ's, I find it looks awesome with a low COG and bigger tires.

Yeah I want to lower it some in the reat but cant. I could cut mounts off the rear hoops and bolt some on like Ive done in the past but for now itll do. All these IFS go fast rigs are bein put together lately, I keep wanting to snatch up a used HPI mini Trophy but then I keep tellin myself to stick to the plan and make this work lol. Cant wait to start driving it and tweakin it already. Budget is the keyword with almost all my builds, and this is no exception. Also, did a little figuring and at the moment the weight is NEARLY spot of 50/50 with the minor difference bein to the front. Cant wait to see it in the air lol

I have a 79 f150 4wd withe abouta 4" lift and 35s. You hit it dead on. Love the stance also. On the west coast that is the desired stance. Elsewhere it seems not so much. Keep it going. Maybe a simple light bar on the stock bumper with two 8" Hellas?

Itll eventually get some bumpers and DEF some lights but right now I just wanna get it rollin. I got the Mamba Max together and my motor came in but Im waitin on a sensor wire and then itll be ready. Im tryin to get it runnin on a hot little brushed motor till then to do some tweakin. Hopefully tonight I will get to actually drive it around some, see how it does.

Looks good man, I like where you're goin with this! I have my 79 ext. cab set up similar and it's alot of fun having a little extra power when you want it. Also like the stance, all my rigs including my 1:1 are a little lower in the back too!

I got it runnin last night with a brushed motor but its still too slow to do any real testing. I DID run a battery thru it and it handles well for the speed its at. Ill be doin a little work to get more steering out of it tho, thats for sure! It was dark out or else I woulda got some slooooow action shots LOL. Once shes runnin a little quicker Ill DEF have to get some shots! I will say that, so far she jumps really level and takes the rough stuff pretty well, but I can already see that at higher speed it might be a little too bouncy so we shall see!

As said before, I got the ShopTruck runnin using an old brushed motor Twisted made me. It was SUPER slow, but I only had a 14t and 16t pinion so I figured it would be, but wanted to see it run. I then got everything I needed to get the old Novak brushless motor he sent me goin. Its not super fast by any means, running the 14t pinion tho to keep temps in line while testing. Im gonna try out the 16t pinion and see what happens but its definitely quick enough now to test the suspension!!! No action shots as a thunderstorm and a busted driveshaft cut my testing short but heres how the electronics are arranged at the moment.

Mamba Max Pro, Spektrum receiver and Castle BEC all on the motor side.

And the battery site on the other side.

I havnt weighed it since I was doing my initial setup, but it feels extremely balance not only side to side but front to back as well. She handles awesome too which I was suprised to see. Only issue Im seeing right now is the back likes to bottom out and bounce the truck a bit much on rough terrain at speed making it a handful. Other than that and tryin to squeeze out a little more speed Im super happy. From a dead stop this thing doesnt wheelie, it spins, hooks and takes off...or craps driveshafts lol so I got the power, just need the gearing I believe!

Soon. I'm chasing some issues at the moment. Burned up a supposedly good mmp and still no speed. I broke an output off the grand and stripped out the rear locker to the point that I can hold both rear tires and hit the throttle and the wheels don't move. I will fix these issues and move on lol. Got the upper links sorted tho so im making progress in a way lol

Maybe it's cursed... Naw it's a ford. They have problem after problem until you fix everything. Then they run like a champ. I have problems like those everytime I rebuild my bronco. Can't wait to see what kind of problems I will have when I get the f-150 body

Lol the Mule I built not only was cheap but ran good from day one, as did the Bronco but I did hit a bad streak of luck on the bronco a while back. I think that's just the way it goes with me and scale rigs.

I don't think anyone ever goes for an extended period of time without breaking something. If you run these rigs hard enough your gonna break things sooner or later.

I have a slash I extended to 1/8th scale dimensions and a wraith and every Time I run either one I break something. I sometimes wonder if it is something I am doing wrong...but I really think it is just cus I like them to go fast, jump high and crawl like crazy. I could tune them to crawl slow and not jump high, but would that be any fun?

If I dont break somethin every time out, I feel like im not doin somethin right. Breakin is part of the game, but sometimes I feel like bad luck settles in and things that normally are doin well end up blowin up. Speakin of which, this rig keeps gettin worse and worse lol.

Rear end is now useless. The input for the pinion ends up gettin hotter than the danged motor and when you slap the trottle, the wheels dont even turn for a couple seconds :lmao:. I tore it out and swapped in a fresh rear end just to see if this was the source of my lack of speed.

No dice, still hittin 15mph or so. Tore the tranny down after busting the input shaft off the front in hopes of finding a reason for the lack of quickness...no dice, everything looks legit.

Gonna take the rig to a big ride this weekend so Twisted can fool around with the motor/rig to see whats missing. If it runs up to what he says it should itll finally be where I want it and I can start havin fun with it again!!!

Matt

It's wierd that u break that much stuff. Only thing I can think of is that it's not really made to do 15mph. So your kinda pushing it past it's limits. Just me .02
