This Is Black Four. The latest edition to Black Squadron. If you've seen my other threads you may remember all my RC's have a Star Wars theme. The latest sub-theme being Poe Dameron's Black Squadron and in particular his T-70 X-Wing, "Black One".

Having decided to start the franchise reboot with Black One: Rebirth Of The EXOTrooper I then moved on to Black Two: Rebirth Of TK-422 .

When I saw the GOM ther was no way I wasn't going to build one. Hence, Thread: Black Three: The Bear Necessity

But then I got very disillusioned with my GOM build - mainly because I couldn't get the electrics right and I blew up my ESS sound module :( so I decided to take a break. I'd not run my Yeti in a while so decided to add it to Black Squadron makeover and started thinking about what to go for. Some great builds on here but I wanted to try something a little different.

So Here's a little taster. The Shape of Things to Come you could say.

  • DIY panels - made from free lexan packing courtesy of local supermarket.
  • Aluminum Front Shock Tower Extension on the front and Twin Hammers/Wraith links on the rear to shorten the wheelbase and get some much needed ground clearance.
  • Some smaller 125mm Austar tyres
  • Roof Rack and some re-styling of the RPM single tire mount for the Slash. Power now provided by a Hobbywing SCT Pro and 3656SD 3400KV sensored combo.
  • Winch going on soon as well as some other scale accessories, silicone earbuds in the front diff to tighten it up and some lower gearing (when I can find a 54 spur).

It's meant to be a kind of Trail/Overlander look.

I love this for a couple reasons and they are both star wars lol

Seriously though nice work. Really refreshed the yeti and makes it look really cool.
Pop a Disney 7 inch Poe head on the driver and bb8 dome on the passenger and you are all set haha!

Done some more work.

Started with a rebuild of the front end with some strengthening and "locking" the diff with silicone gel (earbuds). Re-gooped the bearings etc. whilst I was at it.

Also started to try and figure out new drivers :)

A few update shots. Replaced winch motor and fitted, added lights (gotta re-wire one) and battery tray/fuel cell. Bit more wiring to do for the winch control.

Almost there now.

Work continues. This time on the interior/driver figures. It's star wars so.....

Shifting the ESC to the front in all that wasted space frees up a lot of space. Some plasticard remnants, some off cut bits of star wars toys, an ESC shell.... we'll see how it looks. Undercoat is drying at present. Then a coat of grey (same as outside) for the base. Then I'll add some more bits and colour. the battery will sit vertical in the existing tray.

Only had to remove the bottom part of the legs on K-2SO. black series figure aren't quite scale (only 6" and should really be 7") but all my vehicles have them so …. :)

the other 6ch RX (FS-BS6) came as well so I'm going to rewire everything and stick the RX and winch controller in the fuel cell and leave the RX tray on the chassis empty.

You can just see in the background the net and straps I made for the roof rack. The net is piece of military style net scarf sealed around the edge with superglue. The straps are hair bands rethreaded through some tiny clasps.

It works, and looks very post-prequels ;)
Wait is the hole for steering on the left? Its very K2-so to drive (like a leaf in the wind!) But I thought when you said "its star wars so..." it was implied it would be right hand drive like lukes landspeeder.
Works either way and I really like it!

*fyi the Disney store sells 7 inch figures perfect for rc ;) just know they are diecast and more weight than Hasbro black series. Best part is they are usually deeply discounted and easily found on eBay for decent prices. Often cheaper than black series.
