"The Formula", a CI built; SSDLUX axle'd; Y Town Sporticus chassis; Activated Outlaw

Its been several years since I've truly had a desire to build a competition rc rock crawler. Thankfully the hobby has continued to advance in that time, which really ignited the fire in me to build some new competition rc rock crawlers. Y Town Crawlers continues to create World Champion chassis, so I went to Jake for his latest 2.2S or Competition 4x4 chassis.

Y Town Crawlers - Sporticus - 2.2 Competition RC Rock Crawler Chassis; machined from carbon fiber for the side plates and stiffeners, the arched skid and chassis to shock braces are 3D printed.

Dlux Fab - SSD_lux Axles
These builder axles offer plenty of adjust ability.
Here's how I chose to order and assemble CI's set of axles;

Front Axle:
8* Kingpin Inclination
8mm Shafts
Full Brass Knuckles

Rear Axle:

Introducing Crawler Innovations Competition 4x4 named "The Formula".
It's currently a slider. The transmission, drive shafts, and electronics still need to be installed. This is an all new build that I'm excited to finish and drive. Thank you to all the competition rc rock crawlers world wide that have kept this hobby going.

These brass knuckles and 8mm axle shafts from Dlux Fab are pure strength and durability.

The high or low pinion axle mounting option is a nice feature over the old school SCX10 axles:

A better view of the 6mm aluminum ball studs by jeepindoug:

And that's the current status of "The Formula".
More to come soon.

mhmm.. looks good. if I had one that nice, id have to shelf it and build another to drive.

thought of a body yet? an og ax10 xc-1 or losi comp body would look nice.

Thank you. It's a rock crawler, it's meant to be scratched. If it always stayed pretty, it wouldn't be serving its purpose. As for a body, I have a few Parma Xciter bodies and a couple Axial XR10 bodies too. I'm working on several builds at the moment, but I'm only able to spend a few hours each week on any one build.

I'll be using a Hulksta "left skinny" design transmission for The Formula. This is based off machined Axial XR10 gears and a custom titanium output shaft;

Did you ever finish building this? Looks like a great start!!!

Ironic that you should ask, Yes, it was completed and driven last Wednesday. Fitting that it was a full moon that day as well. JWalker Designs custom painted the body and we met Saturday so I could receive it. I used this rig on Sunday to test some new triple stage foam designs that look very promising. Much more to come this week.

That's great news! I'm curious what gearing you went with?

I'm planning on using the same transmission and axles, but with portals that adds an additional ~1.9 reduction.

The Formula is running "thumbsup".
JWalker Designs painted another spectacular body for Crawler Innovations. This Axial Hardline body has been sitting in the shop for years and it fits this build perfectly.
