The Chop Shop - Trophy Taker

responded"thumbsup"
Nice!

I've got some progress to report on the TT FOFF. I've been making some panels to keep rocks/grass/etc out of the chassis pan. I thought about some clear styrene, but then I thought about the kind of wheelspeed and how fast these rocks will be flying off the paddle tires so I decided to use some scale diamond plate instead. I didn't want the bright panels under there though so I then wrapped them in carbon fiber wrap to knock down the shine and clean up the look.

Next, I needed something to keep everything out of the front, so I made a two piece shield out of styrene and wrapped it too.

It all fits up against the interior pan really well. Once it's finished I'll seal it up even more with some adhesive backed foam stripping.

I'm waiting to attach the last panel until I get my new pinion gear in. I'm stepping it up from a 18t to a 20t .

Next up, I needed to figure something out to keep things cool, so I pulled this radiator from a old Camaro I had sitting around and mounted it up.

Then I had to figure out a way to power this beast. I also needed something to eat up some room in the back, so I decided to make a propane tank out of a couple of 5 Hr energy bottles.

Took a while to get it detailed and installed. I think my help has been hitting the bottle a little hard lately.

The end result was well worth the time it took.

man, just cruised your thread. that thing is looking sick. Looking forward to having more time to read it in detail.

What kind of wheels are those? Are they the stock Wraith offset with the 12mm hex?

Thanks.

Very cool, looking better and better, great work as usual "thumbsup"
Thank you sir "thumbsup"

Looks bad ass, are you going to keep it 3 link up front??
Thanks and yes, 3 link all the way on this one.

wheelbase?

your part will ship today"thumbsup"
Sweeeeet  Thanks again

Mayhem Evolutions I believe. The offset is completely adjustable.

The Trophy Taker is completely wired . Well, almost. All that's left is a couple of light bars. I'm working with SpeedWeigand Customs to get a couple lined out for it.

I also got my 20T pinion, the steering links and servo installed. I dropped the Savox because when I hooked it up it was REALLY drawing some power from this esc. I have a couple of BECs laying around, but I don't really want to do all of that on this rig.

This is a bad ass rig my friend!! Cant wait to see it throwing rooster tails.

Me too! Video, we need some video "thumbsup".
It'll be a few days before I can get video. And even then I have to find a sand lot close by. That or mud/water. Either way there will definately be some GoPro footage of it in action once it's done "thumbsup". I still have to figure out where and how to mount the battery tray.

Love it, can't wait for the video. That propane tank is the icing on the cake
Thanks. Wait no longer my friend, the official test run video is here...

It's finally done! Man, this thing is fast. Very hard to control. I had to stiffen up the rear springs as it would bottom out completely on full throttle. I have also mounted the body a little better after losing it twice during shake down runs.

I hacked up a wraith battery tray and made some towers to raise it above the floor pan. I basically straddled the rear drive shaft with it. I ran screws thru the floor into the risers and from the tray down into the risers. They shouldn't go anywhere.

After the first test run I pulled the threads out of one of my front links ...

The panels I made worked great for keeping out the grass and all.

Then I returned to the shop to replace that link and get it back on the ground running. I was bashing around with it for a minute and decided to do some backflips off a tree in my back yard. The result of the 2nd back flip was this, a grenaded 3 link. But it was plastic, so no surprise really. I have a metal link to install, so that should take care of that problem. It took some really hard hits on the first two test runs, so I'm very happy with these results.

Sweet rig man, That chassis is perfect fit for foff, the front end looks MEAN! !"thumbsup"

it does look awesome, an inspiration for sure. The panels on the side are great. Would help me with snow and keeping it out. Did you have pics earlier about the firewall and how you managed the front driveshaft exit? Never mind, just saw it.

Those evo wheels look good every time I see them. They look like the have a lot of free space so might not be that heavy. I was thinking to use Axial beadlocks as I suspect they're a little lighter. Though I like the looks of the Mayhems. I'd rather just spend the money once then buy one and upgrade. I know you're looking to go light and fast, you feel these wheels meet that expectation?

The issue I had with plastic wheels was the hexes would last long enough to run a few times and they were gone. So I had to use alloy wheels due to that issue. They're heavier than the stock plastic wheels for sure, but that's not entirely a bad thing. The rig will sit on its side on the wheels, so the COG is great with the extra weight down low like this. I love them for my application. They have SO many options to adjust the offset that you can make them work on about anything. In short, yes. They met all of my expectations in not being overly heavy, plenty of setup options and definately strong enough to withstand my driving.

I'm getting it alot closer to being done finally. I took it out for another shake down run in Vincennes, IN. Everything went great until I got the RX wet. It's supposed to be waterproof, but it doesn't like being fully submerged by any means. Guess I'll have to put it inside a balloon or get some CorrosionX. Anyways, here's a very short video of it running a couple of times before I hit the creek.
