The Chop Shop '85 Chevy Lowrider

Im trying to decide on a paint scheme now. I've got over $60 worth of Testors paint Im throwing at it. I want this to be a piece to represent The Chop Shop in August at the Show N Shine. I'm thinking several colors of flames in a two tone and then Lime Ice metallic on the top half. I've got blue "neon" to go undernieth, and my 0mm offset wheels showed up yesterday too. I brought my track width in about a 1/2" or so. The wheels stick out just a little, but I don't have time to modify anything else on the rig to tuck them in. I REALLY wish I could, but I can't. I'm also trying to fit a servo in to raise and lower the back end. Then I'll use some magnesium or lighter flints under it to get a spark show when I drop the bed. More updates to come.

Wtf, no pics with the new wheels lol. Where'd you order you wheels from, I just traded for a tamiya tt-01 roller that'll be rollin on some wires :lmao: . The paint scheme sounds like it should be badass.

Nope, no pics yet . As for the wires, I have these 3mm offsets with tires if you're interested. Just send me a PM. "thumbsup"

This is awesome Hoosier, keep it up!
Thanks. "thumbsup"

So I've been working on the paint lately.

I taped off a 1/4 inch strip down the body line for the Star spangled blue and maybe a 1/8 silver pinstripe in the middle of that. Here's the new track width. It wasn't as big of a gain as I hoped for. But it still looks good.

I faded in the Ice Blue and the Star Spangled blue down the sides.

Then I stuck on some Parma Ghost Flame vinyl masks.

The only thing better than flames...is more flames . I faded in some more Ice Green, pearl white and metallic gold before applying the decals.

Then I painted it all flat white so I would have a good base for the Ice blue. I also painted the roof with some gold and green to prep for more ghost flames on the roof.

Here they are.

Here is the Ice Metallic blue . That 1/4" wide strip of tape will be the darker, Star Spangled Blue with a silver pin stripe down the center. Then the top will be painted Lime Ice Green.

So what do you guys think so far?

That's going to be one sexy truck. I think the track width is about right for a lowrider.

Thanks. I was hoping to bring it in some more, but oh well. I could butcher up the suspension and maybe get anotehr 1/8 out of each side, but Im worried about performance. I don't want to get the dog bones in a bind. But the paint dried overnight, so today when I get off of work I'll pull off the decals and take a look.

Have you had a chance to peel the mask? The paint looks good so far"thumbsup" I still think it needs curb feelers.

Yes I have, and it looks pretty damn good. I have two spots that Im not happy with. So I think I'll try to touch them up. Other than that, it's already under green paint for the top half. I'll try to get some pics tonight. "thumbsup"

As for the curb feelers, I don't think they'll add to the look Im going for so no, there won't be any feelers.

Well, it's hard to tell much from this pic. But here it is.

I've sanded it down since this coat. Then I ran out of paint . So once I get some more, I'll finish up the last coat of green. After that I have to touch up a couple of spots and then it's on to clear coat. The problem is in the white that I used in the flames. It just doesn't flow with the rest of the colors.

Well, I have some progress to report on the interior "thumbsup". I think it turned out nicely. I have some excess flocking to remove from the dash, but you get the idea.

The steering wheel was to big for a lowrider, so I cut the hoop off, shortened it up by almost 5/8" and glued it back together.

The paint work is slowly coming along. I messed up the silver stripe down the middle so I had to repaint the blue one. Once I pulled off the tape and masking I saw that my 1/16th tape had bled thru . So I have decided to use chrome pinstripe to match all of the rest of the chrome. It actually looks better than the silver did. I'll get some fresh pics up later. On this blue color, I used star spangled blue as a base, then some translucent pearlescent purple on top of that. We'll see how it turned out later tonight.

You should've went with a chain steering wheel lol. Its looking dang good man, anxiously awaiting more pics.

I've been working away on the paint for this ride. I decided that the flames on the roof were to much so I sanded them off. It's under two coats of clear now. I'll let this setup for a day and then Ill wet sand it down and hit it with at least one more coat of clear.

The interior fits perfectly with the paint scheme. Once everything is mounted securely it should look great.

I made some light brackets to go behind the grille.

Once the paint is finished Ill make some brackets underneith the edge of the body to mount these.

Well, I got alot of work done on this, and then I messed up . I took the chassis out for a quick run in the drive way and chipped up the wheels. I've got another set coming .

With 3 LED strips and 17 individual LEDs I had my hands full on this project. It went from this...

To this. I'm going to instal 2 9v batteries so they can remain on while on display.

And here it is with the interior, mirrors and glass installed. The height is adjustable by lowering the posts. I'm going to drop it down by about 3/8". I still have to install the windshield wiper arms and I've got to come up with some exhaust tips too.
