TF2 SWB: Anyone know where to get spare leaf springs?

Looks like Lyle (RC ATHLETES) has put the Tamiya part 9808205 (Tundra Hi Lift) leafs on his TF2 SWB: You can see how much stiffer they are than the ones that come with the RC4WD SWB TF2 kit in this video of his... I know new leafs take a while to soften up, but OMG they look stiff!

Ha, I gave him those.
They are super stiff compared to the stock springs but we added a helper to try and get them to last longer which might have to come out. Hopefully with use they will soften up.

So I thought I would try one more time with RC4WD Support, so sent them a fresh e-mail about leaf springs:

Hi RC4WD,

Hope you can help me find a part for my SWB TF2 (Z-K0045)?: I am trying to buy some spare leaf springs for my Short Wheel Base TF2 kit as one has broken, but cannot find them on your website.

On page 23 of the instructions there is a "Spare Parts" list, which includes "Z-S1048 Soft Steel Leaf Spring for Trail Finder 2 Short WB", but I cannot find this anywhere. Is the part number mis-printed in the manual etc.?

I read on rccrawler.com that I could send you a PayPal payment and have a set of leaf springs sent from your warehouse - Can I do this please?

Many thanks in advance,

After a couple of replies with questions I received this :):

We will need 1-2 weeks to ship it out from our oversea warehouse.

Please let us know your transaction ID and your full shipping address and phone number once you pay for it.

I paid the $8, expecting them to get back to me asking for more as I am in the UK, but no, that was inc. international shipping :) About a week later I received a small RC4WD box with 4 SWB length leaf springs (haven't checked their stiffness yet) and the little 'leaf helpers' plates "thumbsup"

Not sure why it didn't got like this the first time around, but alls well that ends well. I guess 'Lam' is the person to get to at "support@rc4wd.com".

I was told they were $30 a pair when I contacted them....

Yeah, $30 is what I was told when I tried the first time (but that was for a set of 4 leafs). I replied saying I wanted to buy 3 sets and was told by RC4WD support that "the warehouse" would have to go find them and they never got back to me, despite chasing several times.

At $8 for 4 leaf springs delivered to the UK I am very pleased, but expect someone at RC4WD will get their knuckles wrapped when they find out!

Do you have the part number for the springs?

Is the TF2 SWB not well supported, then? I was considering getting one, over the MST CMX, because of the forward motor mount and better overall quality drivetrain, but if necessary replacements or upgrades are not easily found, I'll pass. I just searched on TAMIYA 9808205, and found zilch.

Most of the components and parts are shared with other RC4WD trucks, so replacements are there. The Springs, however, are unique to the SWB and unfortunately don't last very long. The Tamiya springs are much stronger, but also much stiffer. I think the stock leafs would hold up if combined with a second short leaf at the axle spring pad to support the weak area where the mounting screw holes are.

I was just browsing on RC4WD's website and noticed that they are now listing leaf springs for the TF2 SWB :)

Down at the bottom of the page for the TF2 SWB, the last item in the "Optional Parts:" section is:

Replacement Leaf Springs for TF2 SWB (Z-S1717)

They are part # Z-S1717, which differs from the "Z-S1048 Soft Steel Leaf Spring for Trail Finder 2 Short WB" listed on page 23 of the manual, but hey at least you can buy leaf springs now "thumbsup"

I'd like to know how they compare in spring rate to the Tamiya springs
