Tekin ROC412 3100KV vs Hobbyking Trackstar 4 Pole 4850KV

Alright So I promised you guys a comparison and while It is raining outside and I could not go outside to shoot video I decided to see how alike these motors are. Beside their obvious KV difference of course so ignore that. I took some pictures and I found a link to the trackstar motor internals. The Trackstar is actually a little more difficult to get apart. I almost need a little puller to pull the ends off, anyway here ya go. Once I get video done I will post that as well. I thought about setting up a little crawling coarse in my living room with my sons toys....;-) If I end up doing that I will post video tonight.

Very well built motor but then again it should be for $159.99

The next set of photo's were not taken by me. That being said as soon as I make something to pull the end caps off the motor I will be taking my own pictures and will post them on here

The main differences I see currently is the trackstar has two spots to plug the sensor wire into giving you more freedom in mounting, the can is also more "open" and while that can help it run cooler it can also allow dirt and debris into it. The ROC412 has a 3mm shaft while the trackstar has a 5mm shaft I personally like the thicker shaft, haha yeah that sounds bad!:shock: Also the ROC412 front cap attaches to the can with 6 socket cap screws while the trackstar attached with three very tiny button hex screws.

Other than that the motor are very similar. Spinning the shaft even feels very simliar. Now for the road test. I will get it done in the next 7 days or so. let me know if you have any specific questions.
 
Awesome! And thank you! Curious, what is your testing method? Are you going to do something hilarious and repeatable, like pull a five lb weight or something?

Maybe run a full battery (or 10) with some resistance on the tires, and see how hot they get. One of the main differences I found between the big names and others is how they deal with heat, and the long term effects of heat.

Ofcourse temps of motor, ESC and lipo are interesting. And I'm curious about battery efficiency, which motor usses the least energy. In similar conditions, disregarding high speed bashing. The 4800kv will then use more due to higher topspeed.
Also interested in crawl/trail capabilities of the (high kv) motors.

Well, I understand, you're a guy, not a laboratory, so you're not going to get too wild. However, running on the same trail is largely subjective. You may be willing to put up with things I'm not, or overlook things I do, or whatever. Just like people who think that their totally lame 1:1 car (I'm not going to name one and start a ridiculous off topic debate) is fast. It's faster than walking, it's faster than a razor scooter, it's far slower than a Saturn V rocket...

Turtlejons suggestion is a good one, as is a simple charting of pre and post run temps after the trail. Maybe a hillclimb, take a few runs, show the high, low, average temp after so no one can claim a ringer or fluke 8)

Just ideas, I really do appreciate you taking the time to document this.
 
why not get a few tennis balls and make a 10 gate scale comp course that way you drive the same area for both tests and see how the temps are and whatever else your comparing?
 
Hey guys so just a little update here. I Had a buddy come over today to help me video tape all this. I changed my idler gear out to a steel one and took my truck out for a test run to make sure everything is running like it should and broke a c-hub...:roll:.... Got some on the way. Didn't have a lot of money on hand so I could not get the ones I wanted so I settled for the yeah racing ones. Hopefully I will not be disappointed. As soon As I get everything up and running There will be videos. Sorry for the delay. :wink:
 
The roc 412 is gonna kill that trackstar in every catagory but speed! I have never had the 4850kv(which is waaaay to high kv for trail rig imo) but i do have a 13.5 (3040kv) & believe me the difference is very noticeable especially torque! If you really want a beast at half the cost HH trailmaster is the way to go. I own all these motors along with sevaral other bl motors tekin,HH,TURNIGY,novak,lrp...& the only motors i run in my rigs are HH & Tekin. The brand is important to those that have had success over others.

With that being said there is nothing wrong with any motors discussed, just NOT AS GOOD.
 
We will see. Before the C-hub broke I was following my buddy who has the ROC412 and I was able to go everywhere he went, until the c-hub broke. We are going to do some sled pulls with different weights and some hill climbs with different terrain. That is where we were headed with the camera before the c-hub broke. I am trying to say "c-hub broke" as many times as I can in this post! :shock: I'm still mad my c-hub broke, threw a grenade in my whole weekend.

But like I said. I know the ROC412 is a lower KV motor therefore will have a bit more torque, the question is how much difference? And yes the Trackstar is a lot faster than the ROC412 But hey its a 4850KV of course it is. The other question is will the trackstar perform and be sufficient? If I can answer those two questions satisfactorily then comes entering a COMP with it and seeing how it performs with against other setups.

The main poing of all this is that you can get an ESC and a Motor for 1/5 of the cost of a TEKIN system or another named brand setup. So if it is comparable in its performance then I will have helped people save a bit of money! It is always nice saving money.

Another note I will be going out to Cloverdale, IN this weekend for my nephews b-day party. There is a state park really close that has some really nice areas for RC off-roading so to speak. Hopefully nothing breaks :twisted:



Oh and you have a regular 2 pole trackstar motor. The 4850 trackstar is a 4 pole same as the ROC412. Just saying
 
Any news? Just ordered a xk3650 3200. New Purple version. It handles 68A on 3s.
And Yes, I know it's a 2-pole... guess it will do for a newby.
 
I was able to install my trackstar 4 pole 4250kv this weekend in my wraith. Only ran 1 2200 mah 3s pack through it in my yard. Gearing is 11/60. There isn't much in my yard as far as slow crawling, but it seems decent. I hope to get it on some rocks soon. I still need to dial in some things with drag brake and stuff. Top speed seems awesome, I think my wraith is going to love hill climbs and probably needs some paddle tires now.
 
The sensored version? What's the battery C-rating? Make site jou check temps of motor and battery (in case of a low C)
