Sticky Tires??

I am a crawling noob.. I just bought some venom switchback tires and they're my first "real" crawler tires. They are very sticky out of the bag, but they seem to be coated in some sort of adhesive. Even the bag itself is sticky, and if you touch the tires, your fingers get sticky. I've heard of tires being sticky, and that is obviously desirable for gripping rocks, but I had always assumed it was the compound of the tire that made it sticky. Is this some sort of spray that they purposely coat the tire with for grip or is it just molding residue? Should I wash the tires off with soap in the sink before installing them? I don't really want this tacky stuff getting all over my shelves and the rest of the house..

Must be Snake Oil

I've never bought Venom tires but it does sound strange.
You are correct, when people talk about sticky tires, they are referring to the rubber compound.
There was just a thread asking about spray on adhesive for tires... seems like dirt would instantly defeat the purpose.

If you wash them, people recommend simple green.

Ok si I tried spraying them with diluted simple green from a spray bottle, waiting and then rinsing but theyre still really sticky. Am I supposed to soak them in simple green or what?

The tires on my creeper were tacky until I ran it outside the first time. Now they are just soft, not sticky.

WOW:shock::shock: The amount of sticky you are describing is very strange. Did you buy them new from your lhs? If so take them back and see what they recommend.

As far as washing them with Simple Green-- DO NOT dilut it:roll: I made the same mistake the first time also. Use it full strength, spray it on, wait a few minutes, wipe it off with a rag. DO NOT rinse it off. "thumbsup" You could even use an old toohbrush to scrub the stubburn areas. With a little practice, you'll get the feel for it.

Try Rover (white dot) or Sedona (white dot) both are EXCELLANT tires

I bought them on ebay directly from venom. Someone suggested I boil them but after 20 mins they were still sticky and in fact left a sticky coating on the pot aswell.. WTF this is ridiculous! Gonna try the concentrated simple green...

Ok, Venom says it's their release agent and that it will go away after a couple runs. I don't really want to mount them on my XR10 rims and get everything sticky (the foams are also sticky as hell) so I'm just gonna get some HB Rovers like everyone else and call it a day.
