yota: The spot is in Rohnert Park, a state park. You have to be very careful when crawling there, the ranger will give you the boot if they see an r/c car ... Most guys use backpacks to hide their rigs as they hike out to the spot.

Frank: Thanks! Glad you enjoyed yourself. You put a lot of headache time into your crawler just to make it on Saturday!

Wes: Yes, Zack's spotter really helped him out! The little guy would tug on the right ear when Zack needed to turn right, and the left when it was time to go left ... Zack railed one courses, getting a negative score, using this technique!

Super fun day. Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped make it a killer first comp. Huge thanks to Jake for getting this all put together, and the JPH staff for helping out with parts for repairs.

A definite day of first for me. First time judging a comp and the first time attending a comp. I had a great day and thought all the courses were challenging and more difficult that they looked, especially course 2. That drop off to the swinging bridge and the climb up to the last gate were super challenging.

I was pleasantly surprised to see which rigs were doing well on some of the tougher sections. And the rigs with dig sure did seem to have an advantage on some of the trickier, or more technical courses, like those on courses two and three.

The only downer for the day was that I did not remember my sunblock, a hat or water. By the end of a long afternoon, in that 1000 degree sun, I was definitely feeling it (mental note to self: put hat and sunblock in truck).

It was a little hot, considering it was one of the first days in the high 80's ... It figures we would go from the ice box breezeway during the Fun~Run, out onto the hot parking lot for the comp!

Here's a few more pics (thanks Chris!) of the day ....
Justin on the articulation board.
Peter showing some flex on "The Flats".
Jason dropping onto the bridge.
Zack and his spotter.
Chris wowing the crowd.
Jacques on the mound.
Lance coming down the mound on "Table Top".
Jason "walking the plank" to finish "Table Top".
Lance coming over "Bed-Liner Hill"
Dean dropping onto the bridge.

Had a great time myself. Jake deserves a big hand for all the hard work he put into the panels. I am looking forward to the next comp. I think I finally learned how to slow down a little. Hard to go from racer to crawler. Real good bunch of crawlers out there. Hope you all make it out for the next comp.

Im bummed i missed it Jake.Looks like you did a great job on making the course.I know it's early, but when is the next one.....

More info on Comp #2 coming soon!

I know I've been a litte picture happy ... but here's what the awards looked like. I'm sorry we didn't get to hand them out right after the comp, but reviewing the scoring sheets took a little time ....
