Ok my fellow Crawlers/Scalers RcBee here BUZZZ. and im sure 100% of you have this problem but I need just one or 2 with the solution!!!!!

ok so I can figure a lot out with my builds just on the fact I have the internet available for either videos manuals or to readily order parts!!! but the Servo Horn issue has been plaguing me for Iver!!!!

I have a lot off different servo horns and at this point mainly use Reefs servos and I do have the screw sizes correct and I never go farther into the servo or force a screw in but even when I have the screw in tight by the end or middle of my run its loose!!! lucky most of my servos have clamps but there has to be a solution!!!

So please help BENP TOPHER HUBOLDT SCALELIFE what's the answer!!! I know am power hungry with servos and im about to Change up to a Triple 777 and the Reefs Raw has already bent the Panhard and flip my rig over countless times so need a solution as im moving up in power and steering radius so need a solid connection to my servo.. BUZZZZZ

Also im gong to install 2 winches the Reefs triple 4 Smart winch and what to do about the screw there also??

BUZZZZ..... BUZZZZZZZ.....

I will 2nd the blue loctite. I have had zero issue with a loose servo horn screw since.

I’ve never had that issue.
1 Clean screw and screw holes with acetone.

2 Put horn on in center position.

3. Mount servo, install and center manually.

4 power up , make sure it’s still centered, now remove center screw, add 1drop loctite, install, now clamp screws tightened, let sit overnight.

5. Critical.... SET EP!!!!

This is usually the reason they get loose, when wedged and you wiggle

Hang up and Drive

thanks for al the good replies and I had always in the past been told not to use loctitie on the servo but I did with one of my slashes and I've never had a problem and the servo is not precious to me so how about GETTING THE SCREW OU??? Any problems with that??

THANKS EVRYONE BUZZZZ BUZZZZZ....

I "third" the Loctite. I've got over a dozen vehicles & vessels, ALL of which have Loctite on the servo horn screws...and, I've never had any come loose. The only time I've ever had any come loose is because Loctite want used...which is exactly the reason why I now always use Loctite.

Just be sure to only have a very small amount, and on the threaded side. You don't want any getting inside the servo.

alos i have a 3Brothers g13 servo which is direct power like the 777 let me know your thoughts on these servos????? BUZZZZ...

Make sure Loctite is blue or purple. Red will be hard to get loose.

I Loctite (Blue) every single servo horn that gets threaded into a metal spline. Have since the dawn of time, never had an issue getting one back out, nothing to worry about there. It's annoying when it gets loose on a crawler, it's expensive when your $600 nitro truck loses steering while going 50 and clips a metal pole. Ask how I know.. :)

Was joking about the servo. I use generic Korean Amazon trash so have no real advice there haha.

I love it and hey you got to be humble I know there is a lot out there and the servos I have even though not satisfying my power hunger are destroying my vehicles and I love a servo that will fling a 8 pound Rig of a rock... BUZZZZZ

Well taken and heard and seen!!! I know a thing or 2 about slamming a pile a plastic and metal into something  BUZZZZZZ......

Yep, blue loctite. I have lost a lot of servo horn and steering link screws and loctitie gets the job done. My personal favorite is the Protek RC blue loctite

Your main question has been well taken care of. Blue loctite is your friend and I have discovered the blue loctite stick this summer. Absolutely love it.

Another point to check, and I’m sure you’re on top of this, is there are 2 lock screws around the spline on the reefs horn. I figured this out the hard way with a stripped horn. I put one in and thought it was nice that they sent a spare lock screw. Never noticed second hole.

As far as thoughts on those 2 servos....I’d suggest that you do your research and draw your own conclusions. My reason for this answer is that you will have to weed through a lot of chaff and snark to find a sliver or 2 of info when you ask for thoughts/opinions. Also, don’t get caught up in the numbers.

My first stock servo replacement was a G13. No issues with it, good performance and quiet. Current and spares are HH500v3. No issues, stripped out stock lower panhard mount, good performance and noisy.

I have no experience with the triple 7.

I love direct powered servos for their simplicity.

When and if the HiTech in my Gspeed goes, it’s replacement will be direct powered.

I found this YouTube channel over the weekend. I really like it, testing to me seems very well done and there doesn’t seem to be any.....bias. Like I’ve noticed with some other tests. He has a Great video testing the latest direct powered servos. The G13 and 777 are tested.

So I suggest watching it and forming your own opinions. [emoji106][emoji106]

One of the contributing factors to the servo horn bolt loosening up is how tight the splines fit the servo. I've noticed there is some discrepancy in how the horns fit onto the splines. If the horn falls into place without any effort, it's not going to want to stay tight. I like it when I have to gently squeeze the horn onto the splines. If the splines don't fit tightly then the bolt will never stay tight as the horn rocks back and forth ever so slightly, loosening the bolt with it.

Also, once a horn has loosened up a couple times it's very likely that the splines are worn since the aluminum horn is softer than the steel output shaft. This makes it less likely that the horn screw will stay tight.

I never used to have this issue when I ran weak sauce servos, but now that the fleet is mostly running 470+ oz/in servos the horn bolts are definitely ones to regularly torque check, even with loctite.

Hey everybody insane amount of Honey LOVE to everyone for fixing my issue ASAP and good to know I can count on some Fellow Drone Crawlers to help with my Scale Builds!!!!

BENP and Scalelife ill get back to you later when I put some posts up!!!!! BUZZZZZ.... BUZZZZ.......

You Are Correct I finally got everything set up properly and noticed the servo head has some play side to side and I have been beating this servo for over 2 months the splines don’t look too bad because most of my horns have side reinforcement screws but I definitely messed the gears in there so I went ahead and got a set of gears on reefs.com.... thanks for all the good info... Buzzzzzz.....
