and she actually enjoyed it! "thumbsup"

she is a very typical girly girl who is very "adult" with zero hobbies except for her 2 French bulldogs Bruno and Bandit. very rarely do we share interest in things. she does enjoy the occasional trip to the shooting range but that's about it. all my stuff (star wars, super hero movies, etc.) is "too nerdy" for her. :ror:

she knows how much i like RC, and is glad my son is involved and appreciates my recent (successful) attempt to get my daughter into tiny trucks (see the "kids and krawlers" thread here in chit chat) she is also glad RC gets me off my butt and outside.

so recently i come home from work early and the kids are still at school. i have acquired some new rocks from her step father for my little start of a backyard crawling course. decided to try out my newly acquired rocks, and half jokingly invited my wife. "would you like to join me? you could drive Andrew's truck."

to my surprise she said "sure!""thumbsup"

i took the ascender and she took the barrage. headed out back and after teaching her how to "crawl" versus just blasting over obstacles yeti style... i said "this is like the fishing of RC".
she got the hang of it VERY quickly, letting the truck flex and articulate, and conquering tricky lines with relative ease. (i swear a barrage on 1.55 pitbull growlers is incredible)
she enjoyed the barrage for about a good 45 minutes, and it was not just to make me happy. i could tell by how engaged she was with her driving, eventually finding a spot to squat down and really see the suspension work.

i said, you know, i could build you your own truck... would you like that?
she said "yeah okay! but not like, right now." i said naw yeah i can do it little by little, just like mine.
she is cool with that. and i couldn't be more excited/happy/proud!

so now that i got her into crawling, the only question is...

WHAT RIG?!

most likely for availability, affordability, and customization, she will end up with some sort of (used) SCX10II. or a new redcat.
and then... what body?!?! she can pick that and i will build a chassis under it appropriately.

not sure when i'll start, but when i do, i'll update this with a link to the build thread!

does your significant other go crawling with you? if so what trucks and how often? let's discuss! "thumbsup"

My wife likes hiking and generally being out in the woods so I bought her a SCX10 Dingo kit. She ended up building the axles and transmission, I did the rest.

We got out to go driving a few times, good times for all. Her truck hasn't been driven much in the past 4 years or so because going from no kids to 2 kids kinda hampers the free time.

Now that our youngest is out of diapers and runs around with endless energy, we plan to get out more as a family. My wife has requested 1 modification to her truck, a full interior so she can put a driver in there (Sharon Carter because she is a Marvel nerd). It is on the list of workbench projects to be completed after we are done moving.

As for what rig, that is a easy one. You have an Ascender so buy her an Ascender. That way every upgrade for your truck creates a spare part for her truck. That is how my wife accumulated aluminum knuckles, c hubs, CVDs, new wheels, new tires, etc for her truck. It's a win-win.

I learned a expensive lesson. I let my girl drive my 1:1 xj one weekend out camping and wheeling then I had to lift hers and make it able to keep up with mine.

Mines totally not interested in rc and I like that. Got our son in to it but mine is still in what am I doing with it stage we haven't gone out and crawled. One day tho. Lol

You should build her whatever YOU desire to build. You will be more likely to build her something you are envious of if you are really into it. I don't know your wife, but in general, i find women like positive attention. A rig that you covet will not only make her feel good but she will know you gave her all that you've got . ..my thoughts on the matter, but I am divorced so what do I know...lol

Edit:just make sure it's the right colour!

thanks for the replies, fellas.

i hope to get the whole fam into crawling, and so far so good. its good quality time together, i get to tinker, its relatively inexpensive, and it gets us outside as a family. i plan on getting a 1:1 xj also, it will come in handy when i get us all out camping. RC is the Segway to that. "hey this is a nice spot, we should stay here overnight" ;)

SVT you have a good point with the spare parts. something to consider...
and her uncle from NC is visiting right now, we plan on a trip out there this summer. i need to see if i can bring the rigs somehow... if we like it enough we might tell California to kiss our collective posteriors.
as for your wife's Sharon carter figure, you mean this one?

if so, i might have it in a box somewhere... get on that interior and we can work out a deal ;)
but she most likely wants the more modern version in the all white uniform. would match the truck better too. that one i don't have. its usually on sale though, considered a "peg warmer" don't tell her what that is she might get mad lol

Yeah, that is the version she got. She found it at Target for like $8 after a coupon.

Sharon is currently hanging out in my garage with Snake.

When it comes it driver figures, the cheaper the better. You never know how you will have to mangle them for fitting in trucks.

If your trip takes you out near Raleigh, I can definitely show you some of the local driving spots. Might even have a truck or 5 that could be arraigned as loaners. "thumbsup"

You can even toss tht leg up on the bay to recoup a bit more from people trying to complete the build a fig without buying the "peg warmers" ;)
And i have the maria hill head on, saving the sharon carter head for my wifes driver figure. Spot on if i add some brown dry brush on her hair. Maybe on a jessica jones or mary jane parker body. Much more casual than a tactical shield uniform lol

Thanks brother i will keep that in mind when we come out there!

Edit:just make sure it's the right colour!

I would second the color question. Body and color maybe of more interest for her than how the chassis is put together.
Mine loves beetle bodies and shiny colors :ror:

Congrats on your wife being interested in crawling "thumbsup"

I was thinking of making a lamp out of the leg. It would be just like a post-apocalyptic future version of A Christmas Story.

I am 51 YO and last time i had a GF i was 17, so the issue are a unknown to me.
I wish i could have one of those though, but i am quite fussy about the people i hang out with and a GF / wife i would have to run thru the really fine meshed filter for a couple of years to be sure it was worth the effort.

Outside my little family ( little sister and so on ) i just have 1 friend, and he have been into RC since 1977 when you needed a permit to run anything radio controlled.

so true. but i cant put a price on quality family time! its like trying to say Disneyland trips are too expensive (and yes they are, even when you live 2 hrs away lol) but you go anyway!

and the leg lamp is BRILLIANT hahaha! i need to find some 1:12 scale lampshades... or... make some? with LED installed? "ahhh FRA GEE LAY! must be from wakanda!" ;)

now excuse me while i dig through my bin of random marvel build-a-fig parts... and i still need to ask my wife what sort of truck body she wants.
