New to the scene and ive been wanting a rc crawler for some time now and my girl bought me a scx10 kit for my birthday. Id like to get into the comp scene and was wondering if i can transform this thing into a 2.2 comp crawler? What elc, servo, motor, rec,? Were can i get rules for some 2.2 comp crawls for the suburbs of chicago area? Where can i get a body that i can bob and dove tale? Any and all recomendations please! Looking to have some fun and make some friends.

There are "scaler" competitions and regualr crawl comps. if it's true 2.2 crawl comps you are talking about then all you will be keeping is your axles.
You would be better off trading your scaler for a shafty with a comp chassis.

The axles and tranny will bolt up to any chassis designed for an ax10. The scx chassis will not do well at all for 2.2 pro class. I would recommend looking in the ax10 section for more info on using your current parts, or the Berg and xr10 section if you really want to comp.

In my opinion scaler comps are a blast. Since they are trying to replicate a more "real world" competition there is usually a wide range of terrain instead of just rocks.

Here's a few pics of the various courses at the last comp my son was in.

If you have a local hobby shop that sells scalers they should be able to point you to a local club or message board.

Hey Ponty, Welcome to RCC "thumbsup"

You should bring your scx 10 out to the local Chicago (burbs) comps and see what you like the best.

Hey Mud puppy, have you got or do you know if there are any vids of that scale comp? The one with the zig zag hill climb. It looks awesome!
