Running deepwoods backwards

Went to a comp (which is not something I normally do). Was told by the guy scoring my run that if I flip my deepwoods around in the front so they face "backwards "they will get more traction so it will pull harder. It's this something that others have experienced or is he full of shit. I'm not necessarily a fan of deepwoods, the lugs seem to tall for the softness of the tire and they fold over to easy in my opinion. I have had way better results from proline krawlers. But it's what I had at the moment and if they work better with the chevron running backwards I'll do it.

I've never run a comp nor have I ever run the deep-woods but yeah.. he's not full of it. People run tires backwards in rc crawling as well as with full-size rigs. With certain tires in certain conditions, it can prove beneficial for gaining some xtra bite as the lugs are able to dig in with the more aggressive corners. Cutting/ siping tires can also improve the bite as well.

Might help, especially as the lugs get worn down on the front side. Flip them and get some more bite out of the rear side of the lugs.

I personally can't stand the look though.

The only way to make a deep woods any better is to replace them with something else. 1 of 2 tires I've ever tried that came off and will never go on anything of mine again. Complete garbage.

What foams are you running? I run Proline dual stage foams in my Showdowns and CI foams (medium inner/soft outer if memory serves me) in my Deep Woods since they’re narrower than the Showdowns. Never had issues of folding over with this setup. Outer 1/4” of tire is soft using the tried and true “hand squish” test, and remaining is well supported. This combination has been one of my most capable combos. I’ve tried all of my tire setups with the tread forward/backwards, front/rear and didn’t like the Deepwoods as much when run backwards but it’s easy enough to swap them around so absolutely try it and see if it helps you. I tend to run my trucks lighter than most, usually only running any extra weight at the front steering knuckles and whatever the beadlocks weigh so obviously not a ton of extra weight to impact how the tire performs.

So I have been doing some testing with tires. Ran some lines with the deepwoods in the I guess you would call it the forward] position and then flipped the fronts around so the tread pointed backwards. I can't say it was wow! What a difference but I do "feel" it was a bit better.

That being said, I bought these deepwoods because a person i rc with swears they are really good. I'm not sure what he is comparing them to but I'm not a fan. In soft sand and and loose dirt they do ok, but come up on anything solid and it seems like someone wiped grease on the tires. They just sit there and spin regardless of which direction they face. I even put some CI dual stage foams in. I brought my proline krawlers with me as well and the grip was immediately better.

That is most hobbies in a nutshell. "This widget is the best I've ever used! I recommend everyone try itz you'll love it!!!" Nevermind that that shmuks has never had anything but an rtr scx24 so their opinion means absolutely nothing but it sounds good on social media! 🤦

what tires do you run? in 1/10

my friend have 2.2 deep woods winter, and they are great in snow atleast.
Soft is good in snow.

I believe they are too soft hot summer?
This friend lives far away today. I have not seem this live, only by his words
on the phone.

hyrax predator?

I have try Duratrax deep woods 2.2 in my alu bedlocks
With two different foams, also without foams. They dont handle loose sand

Need something better now. Really good ones, pretty good is not enough :)

Seems you haven't had good luck either. No matter what rig I try these deepwoods in they get worse then using a "premium "tire. Sounds like your friend is misleading you like mine did.

On my local terrain on scalers I run pro-line predator compound tires on C2 and G8 on C3. They just flat hook up.
