RIP Sandy

Yep... just saw the news. Pretty incredible voice... listening to some bits of her songs now. And not to disrespect her as a person with many attributes and accomplishments that should be remembered as such, she was an absolute smoke show in my adolescent mind. Shame to hear of her passing.

I remember going to see "Grease" in the theaters when it was released...several times, to in fact. In high school, we did 1 play, and 1 musical, each year. During my senior year, the musical was "Grease". Although I tried out for 'Danny', that role went to the drama teacher's "favorite" (he always got the roles he wanted), I did get cast, and in two different parts (one of the extra T-Birds, and as the "Teen Angel". Even to this day, I can't help singing along every time I watch the movie. Olivia was the most popular female vocalist of the 70s, and she'll be missed.

For the past few weeks, one of the local radio stations has been advertising "Xanadu Nights"...something they've been planning for quite a few months. Originally, it was going to be done inside the San Jose Playhouse...but, due to an overwhelming response of interest, they changed the location several weeks ago, to the roof of a local garage. This isn't a showing of the movie, but a LIVE performance, and includes lighting, lasers, and smoke effects, and starts 8/19. For what should be obvious reasons, the performances are at night only...no 'matinee' performances.

I'm guessing, due to today's news, they'll probably be slightly changing the format...still doing the live performances, but also turning it into a remembrance of her.

Sad to hear. RIP Olivia Newton-John!

I was never really into musicals, but Grease was always on my list to watch. Great movie and great memories watching it as a kid!
