RESTO MOD - RC10 Nitro DS / 69 Camaro Z28

DO you plan to run this? With all the work you've put into it i'd hate to run it and get it all dirty and oily... Looks great tho. nice work on the resto.

HEY BK long time no hear!!! Thanks man! And yes...i plan to run this one so i can break in the engine. Then some after run, clean up and to the shelf. i will be careful not to scratch the bottom of the chassis so I will run her on a nice clean parking lot and place lexan on the bottom of the pink chassis. Also I have another body that will be used...don't want to run pink car outside...might blind people, lol.

Here is an update to the "Spare Parts" DS. She is close to being finished and has been geared for high speed. Motor is a .18 OS (the biggest of the three DS's). Pipe is the associated torque pipe (for now). Gears have been upgraded and blue shielded bearings installed. Brake nut upgraded to aluminum and fresh brake pad installed. Stainless steel screws all around. Springs have been changed...Green upfront, stiffer silvers in the rear, 30wt oil all around.

too clean....too clean

what a nice body....that's an old school I can get into..."thumbsup"

Thanks Greg, clean is my middle name, that and CHIT PLOW! these are all potential chit plowers as they are low to the ground.

Yeah i wanted to try the 41 willy's body for this build. Paleblue mentioned it was a nice fast little body so i went online and pulled my finger...er i mean the trigger, hahahahaha

Lol....killer body my friend...the true ground pounders are low and very fast. I see your stuff and it makes me want to bust out my pan chassis. I still have a vintage Nissan GTP prototype body I've been itching to paint up a nice red, white and blue. I may have to resurrect the old 10L pan chassis to pull it off though.

Mr. Chitplow....I respect what you do. Your attention to detail inspires me...."thumbsup"

HAHAHA thanks Greg.

Would love to see that resurrection of your 10L with that Nissan body and especially that color scheme. It was one of my favorites back in the day.

I had the little Cox version of that Nissan...with the .049 engine. That was the messiest nitro car EVER!!! Body was great though, lol.

Car needs a few more things and paint to be completed.

Update: a new Carbon Fiber electric DS added to the stable

Got this Carbon DS on auction. It was a non-functional shelf queen. Not built to standards, it was built to display a body. im getting it back to the way it should have been built.

Well i got some Carbon Fiber goodies from RCCARBONWORKS. Got those on there easily. Motor will hopefully be ordered next week. Going for a brushless setup.

SPARE PARTS DS - The Remix

As you all know Ive been working on a nitro DS that was born out of spare parts. Well there is now a SPARE PARTS DS part 2. The ingredients are there for another nitro DS; DS PART DEUX. Its lacking a few items but those are easily attainable. Im starting with a blue tub GT chassis. Here is the start.

Now to answer your question, the carbon DS chassis is setup for electric setup. You would need to drill some holes for gas setup. That's something that would be cool to try but you will lose the heat shedding abilities of the aluminum. However, it will look very trick!

Ah...my kind of colors my friend...."thumbsup"

HAHAHHAHA Thanks Post..They are not as pronounced as i would have like the colors to be...ORange is hard to capture unless outside. It can either go towards pink spectrum or lean towards red.

I promise better pics. that was just a quick update. I know ive been quiet lately but thats not to say im not active in the hobby...

latest aquisition...Factroy Team RC10GT

Will tell you this little incident that happened to me with this truck. I got this one all built minus radio. Engine is broken in and truck is in new shape. CVD's were a little tight...rebuild them...when it came time to apply grease...i applied what i thought was MIP lube...Damn my eyesight!!! it was THREADLOCK!!!:shock::shock:

It all felt nice and lubed till i went to spin wheels the next day...Both were seized. :lmao:

:idea:Took CVD's and placed them over flame and burnt off all the threadlock...cleaned and relubed them...now truck is the slickest roller around. its ready to run.

By the way...the body was something that i acquired from another kit as an extra. it was already green but a couple of associated decals made it official, lol. Now im just waiting on some another engine so i can complete some of the DS projects.

glad to see you are still going strong....

threadlock huh, I inadvertantly got some on some cvd's...they are still pretty stiff....thought about hitting it with the map gas torch...see if that loosens it up any. only problem is you can't hold onto it much and get it to move around without heating up the gloves pretty good.

I have a guy I'm helping to build a wrecluse with scx10 axles and hiss tires hit the cage pretty good. Did you use any wheel wideners on your wrec? Or did you have that issue at all?

YEah, going strong if you mean falling off the wagon by getting more cars/truck...lol. i need help! Hey, on the CVD heat... i held it over stove burner and let it heat up while spinning it...i could smell the threadlock burning off...when it got too hot i simply doused it in water and brushed the joint with a toothbrush. I started again...each time forcing the joints to bend a little more. After third attempt they were as smooth as butter. I dried and greased. oh, never needed a glove.

I definitely had issues with tire rub on the wreckluse. That's why i dont use 2.2's on it. I have the AX10/SCX10 axles. When running the 2.2's I had to limit shock travel to avoid tire rub.

I'm currently running 1.9 wheels with 4.65 in tires with no shock limits; i believe they are the 100mm shocks by RC4WD. I've never used wideners on it. When the front shocks are compressed the tires are about 3 mm away from touching the chassis. I also have stiff upper and lower shock springs.

forgot to mention the latest build thread

checkit out when you get the chance..

Gonna go check it out now...

Thanks for that Alex, I thought you used 1.9" wheels...wasn't sure though. I believe this guy wants to run 2.2's....not sure What he's gonna do now.

Wideners it is I guess...

Yep i use the 1.9's because of tire rub. I had given some thought to using the wideners but its not the same as having a wider axle. There is more stress applied to the knuckles. I thought of also using the wraith axles as you did but that's a whole new set of parts to purchase.

Let me know how that works out.

UPDATE

Here is an update to this thread as i just added another nitro DS to the garage. I got this kit recently. The build was started in 1999 but was never completed. i purchased and had me a project. I took kit apart and replaced practically all the screws with stainless steel. While rebuilding the kit i opted to change the front axles with a SC10 4x4 set. This allows me to use modern wheels and fresh rubber like HPI vintage wheels. Although this car came with the original wheels and tires in sealed bags, the tires have signs of dry rot. I have an OS .12 CVR engine on the way as well. I might however opt to increase displacement to .18. Thats still up in the air.

I went with a HPI 1968 Camaro body. This is a very cool body is a one piece body plus the wing. The other muscle car bodies require the rear bumper trunk area to be attached separately. The wheels aligned perfectly once i shortened the wheelbase via spacer. (i still need to finish the wing)

Here is a preview...once i finish installing the power plant i will update.

You sure do a nice job with rattle cans and tape...
Do you knock down your body posts once you get it to sit where you want?
