Hello everyone,
I am an Associated RC10GT fan. I still have my first RC10GT so it comes as no surprise that I recently got into the RC10NDS as it was derived from the GT. I managed to score a really clean and almost new DS (Thanks Jeff and Todd). I also scored one from Canada in an auction which is the one this thread is about.
I basically got the Canadian car as a back or "CAR FOR PARTS" to support the first near new DS. The junker was is good condition but needed some repair on the tranny. I happen to score a tranny at auction as a backup but then decided to give the "CAR FOR PARTS" some TLC and a new lease on life.
I was planning on keeping the cars all original but because getting a set of original tires without dry rot is nearly impossible i mounted a(now discontinued) Pro-Line item #6068-00 hub adapter kit.
The Beginning:
A Nitrro DS from Canada.
The Tear Down:
Replacements:
Bushings Out; Ball Bearings IN
Bearings placed on rear axle cups
Plastic Rear Bulk Head Out; Open Aluminum Bulk Head In
Tranny Out; Reconditioned and Buttery Smooth Tranny In
New Powerplant for the DS - Traxxas .15 pull start
Choice of Exhaust Pipe - Paris 1:10 Stiletto pipe
It was choice of new original stock exhaust, Paris Turbo ring pipe , and the Paris Stiletto. The Stiletto won!
Some rust removal off dogbones...now clean
Tranny with ball bearings and rear aluminum bulk head
Black nylon nuts and bottom spring cups replaced with RPM Blue nuts and cups
Trinity Aluminum Tranny Brace & Traxxas .15 Engine
Now for some wheel base shortening. The DS has a spacer on the rear that allows you to shortened the wheel base by 5mm. I replaced the rear suspension mounts with a set of RPM Zero Degree mounts for the GT. It turns out that they reduced the wheel base by 5mm as well.
The DS tires are hard to find and there are no support tires so i decided to use Pro-Line's SC10 Front inboard hub adapter. This item is discontinued but im glad i had a spare. This allows me to use 26mm HPI wheels and modern day rubber.
Modern wheels and rubber
Chosen body for this project...1969 Camaro Z28
The chosen Pipe: Paris Stiletto 1:10
Chassis as is stands today: Ball Bearings all around, New Update fuel tank with Duratrax filter. Front hub adapters with modern wheels and rubber; nice aluminum upgrades with more than adequate powerplant and pipe.
All i need are some servos, receiver, receiver pack and a nice parking lot, lol
Camaro body painted in stock form
Camaro body in Racer Boy fashion
So in a nut shell...
I got this:
I cleaned up and got this far
The Canadian and American DS
The American DS has a stock associated exhaust
My current DS collection, 2 nitros and one electric.
Here is the body on the American DS with HPI vintage wheels. I think these look great together and as PaleBlue mentioned, the wheels are period correct with the body.
Now i have to work on a couple of more bodies for both the electric and nitro DS.
Let me know what you guys think.
