Question about V2 dig and 3 speed trans

I just bought the vanquish VS4 phoenix straight axle kit.

I am wondering if I can put the 3 speed transmission and the new dig V2 in this vehicle together?

Also what are the very first performance parts I should put in this kit.

I am thinking about putting the hobby wing axe pro system in this rig. If not I might just put the same system I put in my TRX-4 HH puller pro V2 with mamba x ESC. Does anyone have any experience with the hobby wing system?

I must admit, I don't understand this question. The VFD Twin has selectable front overdrive and dig.

Knuckle weights. The big boys from KYX on Amazon are my recommended: https://amzn.to/3UB2tlA

You can get away with a Fusion Pro 2300 if you gear all the way down to a 9T or 10T, but it gets noisy with the less-than-round pinions. I don't recommend higher kv than that, and would honestly recommend sub-2000 on 3S. I'm running an 1800kv Fusion SE in my straight axle with the stock 13T pinion, wheelspeed is just about right.

Due to the limited space in a Phoenix, you're going to be cramming a Mamba X or an AXE in there is gonna be a trick-- on the cumbersome battery tray next to a small pack or next to the steering servo are about all you've got. That's why I still contend that a Fusion is the way to go, as it really cleans up the install.

Yes. But you will need a new skid plate.

The only thing to change would be wheels and rubber.

I haven't used that combo, I have the fusion pro in one Straight axle Phoenix. With a little sanding on the front right upper link. The can was 37mmx58mm. 60mm is your max length. 36mm max before having to modify.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think I will be able to fit the AXE 540 in my truck so I am going to go ahead and get that. I also e-mailed the VP of vanquish to ask about fitting the 3 speed trans and the dig V2 into the truck. I will let you guys know what I get for a response when I get one.

I will be upgrading this truck a lot. Including some wheels from Locked up RC.

My next question is where can I get a really good scale hard body for this truck? What size am I looking for when looking for bodies. Or if someone I ask to make me one asks?

any suggestions on who to ask to make me a custom hard body? I want to replicate my dads truck he had when I was growing up in his memory.

3 speed huh AND dig um kay

Yeah, I go way overboard with things. But I enjoy being able to use the different features of the vehicles. I love switch from the 1st gear to the second on the TRX-4 then locking the diffs when needed when I get stuck somewhere it feels like real life.

I honestly like the unlocking diffs with the multi speed trans more than the dig, but I refuse to get another TRX I wanted something different.

I am going to get an SCX10 next unless someone else comes out with the trans and the locking diffs.

Are you confusing a 3 gear transmission as a 3 speed transmission? If so, that would be a downgrade compared to the stock vfd twin.

Unless you prefer simplicity, and no overdrive.

This one [emoji1432] correct? I was wondering if this would fit as well. I’m liking the VFD twin but was looking at this as well since it seems like a bulletproof transmission and for ease of maintenance.

Yes I like it as well. Even though it’s not a 3 speed like I originally thought I still am going to get it eventually.

Yes that can be installed into a Phoenix. You will need a different skid, and the front driveshaft output will need to be on the same side as the front diff (left side). You may need to shorten or lengthen either or both driveshafts.

You will also lose any over drive, so I would recommend an over or under drive ring and pinion set.

I’ve installed the element stealth x on my Phoenix and didn’t have any clearance issues with the interior panel, I don’t believe the 3 gear is any taller so you should be good there too.

Gear set (under drive, for rear axle)

Extra driveshaft tubes if needed

Thanks twade984 for the tip on the gear set. I was contemplating using the 3 gear in my flatbed. "thumbsup"

Awesome thank you for the detailed info. I’m definitely going to drive it some more with the VFD and add this to my project later on. Good to know there aren’t any major fitment issues.

I actually found a video wheere you can install dig into a 2 speed transmission and I found a video where you can also have the unlocking diffs in the phoenix! I am going to do this for sure.

dont belive everything you see on you tube theres some people doing some really stupid stuff and claim its the sherbert and everyone should do it
not that i have any idea what your talking about just sayin

If you take a Phoenix and put TRX-4 axles under it, then do a bunch of custom work to mount the servos, you can have unlocking diffs. I know because I built one. Would I do it again? Nope.
But not for the reason you think-- F10 portals have a 1.4:1 reduction, while TRX-4 are 2:1, so things get REAL. SLOW. On a Fusion Pro with 16T pinion, it's about 3.5mph WOT. I mean, I also unlock the diffs... rarely.
The only TRX-4 I routinely use the lockers on is a Defender. Because it weighs 9lbs and turns like a boat.
