Okay I've always had this interest but never came across why it would be necessary or even beneficial. I understand at least the BWD version can hold different motor sizes, offers better heat dissipation, looks cleaner, lighter, stronger....but am I missing something else?

I think that money would be better spent on VP's Axial tranny housing...those stock plastic ones strip over time.

I have 4 Axial rigs....I'm guessing the second one with the 10T puller, the third which is the Wraith with the CM 20T, and maybe the last one my sporty with the CM 35T?

1. 1.9 Tundra scaler (mud rig):
-SCX10 running an OG self waterproofed Sidewinder and 55T lathe on 3s with CCBEC @ 6.0V using a Hitec 5645WP w/aluminum horn
-All electronics/lipo moved forward
-RRP loaded steel tranny w/Lucas Red n Tacky #2
-4 linked stainless rear setup (thanks R2J)
-OD/UD HD bevel gears, packed axles f/r with marine grease to keep out mud/water
-Axial CVD's on Gunnar Pins
-VP zero ackerman knuckles
-Axial clocked C's
-MIP f/r
-Sitting on some 1.9 CAC BL's with GMade hubs on Pitbulls with CI closed cell foams med front firm rear
-Tamiya Highlift Tundra body set w/full emblems, lenses, and fender flares

New Plans:
-RC Rock Armor front bumper to come...probably a snorkel...then perhaps clear windows with full interior and interior/exterior LED's...thinking of a daybar w/4 bright 5mm white LEDs.

-Axial axles loaded (CVD's, OD/UD, packed with white lithium, Axial zero ackerman high steer knuckles, Axial clocked C's, 4 link f/r with custom stainless beefy uppers (thanks DMG)
-Chassis/polished panels done by DMG
-RRP loaded tranny with MIPs
-2.2 Rc4wd True Scale wheels w/red BL's on OG Rok Lox with CI foams

-Dual 5mm yellow LEDs for spot lights up front
-Team3Six seats/dice
-Custom chromed steering wheel/dash/gauges
-Custom mounted spare 2.2 tire/wheel

To Do:
More interior work (fixing the carpet scheme, shifters, radio, GPS)
Covering cargo rear area
Rear taillights
Rebuilding tranny to handle the rebuilt 10T puller (SuperShafty!!)

VP wheels....the DNA's are too wide. Looking at DHII's front and back....
Might go with a new chassis to change things up...

Any other tips on my current layouts would be greatly appreciated!!

The HD motor plate is used primarily for the high powered rigs (Brushless, high voltage, FOFF style, etc.).

The stock motor plates WILL flex given enough power and torque which then leads to stripped spurs. The HD motor plate simply raises the torque handling capabilities.

You're right though. For 99% of the crawlers out there, the HD plate has no purpose.

What is the purpose of two threads on the same subject

Is what the title should be. Its stronger Alex. If you don't currently strip spur gears then its not needed. If you do or then a stronger one is needed. I like BWD's options more than Axials.

Aghhh now I understand....when motor plates start bending under a high power BL system the only giveaway would be a stripped spur right?

I'm rebuilding tranny on big old 10 pound Lucifer running with a 10T cobalt puller on 4s and I strip those weak 48p spurs left and right...so I guess that's from the motor plate twisting under power? I'm having a lot of stripped spurs maybe after every 3 packs of hard driving and jumping. I do continue to keep a light throttle when landing to keep the drag brake from instantly locking too.

On the Wraith (BRXL 3s w/a CM 21T using mod .8 gearing) absolutely no problems. I'm running the SuperShafty larger input shaft along with the Gen3 slipper so the Wraith is built like a tank.

There's no telling if its the motor plate or the 48p spur, or both. I like 32p and strong motor plates. "thumbsup"

Yup always better to build beyond the bare minimum....only a matter of time before that won't work either....well since Lucifer is my pride and joy I'll give it more attention lol....ever since I broke the arm off the puller I've been waiting for John to rebuild his puller for me but it was tough since they disco'd the cobalt pullers....but finally got one!
