Hello everyone im getting back into the hobby after a break for several years ,and ive decided to build a trail truck to do some light crawling ,hill climbing ,but mostly just mild trails with some guys from work . Im stuck with my choice of motor . Ive got it narrowed down to either holmes hobbies puller pro standard or castle slate motors . What would you guys recommend the puller pro or castle and what kv to run 3s . Ive been reading for days and it seems both motors are used often in every kv they offer which makes it kinda difficult to decide . i already have a castle mamba x esc that im planning on using if that helps

I’ve got a two puller pro standards, one 3500kv in my bomber and a 2200kv in my 1.9 scx10.2.
But my favourite motor is my 1900kv slate motor in my 2.2 rig.
Super fine low end control. You can edge it along at snails pace but it can still spin tyres well enough for trailing.
I definitely prefer the slate motors
All on 3s

can i ask what made you decide on the 2200kv in the 10.2

Well I wanted a new motor for my new build.
Holmes hobbies motors are widely regarded as the best around , but I have never been happy with my 3500kv. So I thought maybe it was just too high kv. So I ordered another one to give it a go. Tossed up between 2200 and 2700 . But I prefer to go super slow so I went with the 2200kv

Not much contest here. Holmes hands down.

I went from the slate 1900 to the2700 Puller and would never go back. Set a smooth gradual throttle curve and creep with Holmes, not crawl. Hell I can walk faster than my 3500 in the Wraith.
Proper ESC and curve will show why Holmes is the way, and now with lower $$ even better.

Im leaning towards the puller pro 2700 as it is . I havent talked to many that liked the slate motors over the puller pro .

Awesome motor, the stubby is also a great motor, and a tad shorter.

My buddy is a slate fanatic, until he tried the 2200 stubby..... he won’t go back either.
Holmes is designed by a crawler for crawling

With the old pricing of the Holmes motors, this was a legitimate argument. Now that Holmes has lowered the price of his motors SIGNIFICANTLY, there’s no longer really a comparison. Holmes all the way.

Are there any advantages to running the stubby over the standard pp ? i read that the standard had more torque. Ive always preferred motors with higher torque just seems to fit my driving style better to me anyway , but then i havent built a truck in several years ,and everything has changed lol
