Ok guys this is my 4th XR10 project and ultimatly is not for me. Its being built as a specked up basic entry level crawler for a newbie to the Pro comps, for them to fine tune the details to their desire in; The gears, bearings and gearbox upgrades, alloy screws/nuts etc and any additional bling and paint of their own choice for the pannels.

No 1. 1st is My current Pro BWD Wedge and as i drive for Don the rest have no real use as currently i am happy with my rig and developing it as far as i can and hopefully with some new additions from Don i will take it further in 2013.

No 2. Was a Stocker i built that was from a mix of brand new mostly and some of my older parts that had little use that was sold onto someone in here that has used it for their own devices.

No 3. Was a Viper XR10 that saw some occasional use but as my main comp rig was driving so well it was eventually parted out and some bits sold to others and some bits kept.

No 4. This is my current build and it may infact in time as it gets developped by its new owner be more capable than my own comp rig.

Current specs are as follows;

Chaotic Crawller CF Switch Chassis
Chaotic Crawller CF Switch Topper
Alloy screws through the Chassis and Topper
Unpainted Panels
Chaotic Crawler TI links
Traxxas Rod Ends
Traxxas Alloy balls enough for the upper and lower links
Hitec 7955TG Servo
VP SLW 4 0.5" wheels
Shaved HB Sedona's
Old Style Cut and Narrowed CI Duel Stage Foams
Brand new HH BRXL De cased and De heat Sinked
Punk Dig
Currently KO Pro Po 3 CH TX/RX
CC Bec 10A
Most likely 35T HH Pro Hand Wounds
Stock XR Shocks Internally Limited by about 10mm
Losi Gold springs
One Piece Straight Steering link Mod done
Front Mounted Battery plate.
HR "C's"
18g motor wire
VP Steering Knuckles

This is essentially what its being built too. However some of the equipment is not required by the owner. So some of it may be changed for his needs as he has some gear already and some i need inplace for testing all works ok before sale.

As it stands now less motors and battery its around 1.6kg with the alloy balls still to be installed so is weighed with no motors, battery and with steel rod end balls installed.

As no motors installed and no painted pannels is not much to see. When the new owner is ready ill leave it up to them to reveal their identity as they want to remain quiet currently as it is their new toy ultimatly. So i wont confirm or deny who he or she is as only a few people know the details. When motors are installed i will post some pics.

Ben

Sweet! Another chaotic "switch" for the best... Sounds pretty well planned out, the pics will be great to see.

Thanks mate in buildin it so far i hope it ends up performing for the new owner when its finished. Also does make me think about in the futue when im done with my Wedge upgrading to a new chassis that Don does. ;-)

Sounds good Ben, Subscribed. I know what you mean about the addicted part. I currently have 2 sets of Berg Axles and a brand new set of VP10's,I mean XR10's. I think I need to sell off one of the Bergs, but hate too since the only MOA's left in production are HR and Bullys.

Oh, its a performer! After a week or so of having my Switch together, I took my first 1st place in 2.2p.. it helps that I upgraded from a paradox'd creeper that I ran all season in the pro class.. lol

There is no doubt bout its abilities! He will highly enjoy it..

A briaf update for this. Its been with the owner for a number of weeks now until the motors arived and for some personal touches. It now has Shaved Boss claws added, and some shock tuning done. The Motors were delayed due to low stock but they did finally arive. The new owner did end up choosing HH 35t for this build. Tonight when the kids went to bed i finally got it wired up . It Lives

Without Alloy balls installed in the rod ends and no alloy upgrade hardware in the axels and the wiring cut to a mininum with one of my 850mah batteries its RTR weight is 2002gms (4.41lb). It still is lacking body panels and upgrade gears and bearings in the axels and a RR Batery/electronics plate.

It may gain some weight when the new owner personalises it and adds in upgrades.

I gave it a quick test on my back yard rock and with no knuckle weights and my battery cable tied to the front axel and no knuckle weights it crawled very well. It's different in the way it behaves to my Wedge and it seems to take lines easier in some ways and struggled in others. Overall with no forward bias other than the battery it goes very well. With some tuning and getting use to the Punk Did i think it has alot of potential.

I need to do some futher checks but hopefully you will see it in the new owners thread shortly. Will throw a few pics up tomorrow.

Hey Ben, I can see only Text!!!!!
Where are the pics ;)

But man, you must be lucky with your wife if she let you do all of this..!!!

Nearly all my work these days happens after the kids are in bed and usually finish between 1am and 3am depending when I start. My wife doesn't really like it but is my holidays to so as long as I get stuff done around the house during the day she can't complain.

this will be cool to see an im sure the other person will like it when its done a tuned

Thanks mate.

I must say that this has been fun to build. I really love building these things up and im looking forward to another Pro build XR10 later in the year. The next build will hopefully be something different again...

Although i drive a Wedge as my own Pro rig and it serves me well im actually pretty amazed at this rig and how well it has come together with little tuning or setup. Its just been basic and was made to be an entry level crawler in our local group for a beginer as an entry level rig with a few basic upgrades.

What i can say when the new owner gets a hold of this and learns to drive it, it has actually turned out to be very capable. As my Wedge is based more around the original design of the XR10 and this although is still based on the same platform they are very different rigs. The narow skid allows it do lines that are very different to my own wedge and in some cases some lines easier. Dont get me wrong i love the wedge and it serves me well, but for anyone buildig a first comp level rig i must hand it to Chaotic Crawlers and their drivers as this just works.

Just for kicks i through on set of white dot Rovers mounted on Pro Line 8 shooters i have with the older style ci foams and while it didnt climb as easy it still climbed quite well. I honestly believe with some tuning and practice the new owner could give us all a run for their money locally and tighten up te field. The thing that amazes me most is this has no additional foward bias weight yet. No Knuckle weights or lead in the wheels. The only forward bias is the battery cable tied to the front axel(for testing) and the Punk Dig unit and ESC as far forward as it can be. i know the new owner has plans for Knuckle weights and a RR electronics plate so i dont see him needing much additional weight up front as it is now.

Please excuse some of the messy wiring in the pics. The new owner has their own CC BEC on order and i have one of mine wired in for testing and as the electronics are not 100% final on location, i left a little extra lenghth on the motor wires front and rear incase he moves it around for his final setup.

That's cool of you to get this thing set up for your buddy. Looking forward to seeing how the new owner likes it.

I had this fitted originally with shaved Sedonas. But the new owner has had it a while making it his own. Down here most a running shaved Boss claws as they are light and work awesome on the local rock. Both my in rigs have them too.
