Rock Crawler
Firstly, there's the option of taking a bit of a hit on cost, and being awesome and giving the radio to a new kid who could use it. or having a spare to help someone out when something random happens and their radio breaks.
But not all of us are milllionaires who have money to keep buying superfluous radios just to be nice (I know I'm not).
So, let's look at the math of RTR vs. BND for the consumer who has another radio and would prefer to not have extras.
RTR 1/24 scale crawler from Losi is 119.99. BND is 99.99. You spend a little extra, get a basic radio that you don't need.
The 2.4 DSM radio is going for an average of 30$ on Ebay as of my last check.
So you pay 119.99 for the RTR and you either sell it below most people at $20 to break even, or, you sell it for the average at $30 and make 10$ on the deal.
Since you could probably expect similar price difference on the Trail Trekker (if they were to make a BND version), the same principal with selling it would apply.
If you were able to break even or even make a little money on the deal, then what is the problem?
you get an innovative rig that is ready to be awesome straight out of the box either way.
Everyone is focused on what isn't being offered, as usual. But only a couple people have taken a second to look at this rig and see what makes it different, and way better than the original micro.
I was kind of "meh" on the first micro, but this thing is a blast to drive. I love the look, the stance not only looks way better, but it improves performance, the wheel weights are sweet, and I love the body style.
and yeah, I am a little biased, but I think this truck is fantastic. I like it so much, that if I'm allowed, I'll be taking one on the USS Cleveland with me this summer. It'll be perfect for on-ship diversion, and playing when at port.
