just posting this for the Top Gear fans on the site

ok, i'm usually a little behind with things, but WTF?
i just saw a commercial on History channel for a new US Top Gear with host Rutledge Wood (Speed Ch. co-host for some nascar stuff FYI) to be aired on History Ch. oops, i missed the time/date though
now i do consider myself a bit of a Top Gear head, but how did i miss this untill now? :x

not sure how well this will be pulled off, but i can not see how it could compete against the orignal with the boys. curious to see who else might host, or if any others will join. and the big milloin dollar question... will there be an american Stig? and if there is will he just be a copy cat of the original?

can't wait to see how good/bad it's going to be, but there is no topping the original as far as i'm concerned. :flipoff:

Edit: my mistake it's on History Ch. not Discovery

Pomy top gear will still be the best. But on a side note there already is an american stig:lmao:It's on the american special I think.

I'm willing to give it a try, not sure how well Rutledge or Faust will be (dad doesn't care much for Rutledge, and I'm no fan of Faust as a host), I can see the guy form "Rescue Me" though. I have read that it will be decent though, hopefully better than what the Aussie's got..........

Don't feel to bad man, I didn't know about it till last week...lol

And I agree completely...there is a slim chance that it will measure up to the original but I'm interested for sure "thumbsup"

Pretty much old news...but

It will never touch BBC's version, but another half ass decent auto show is a good thing in my eyes. I'm sure it won't be as good but anything to tide me over until the next TopGear UK is fine.

I was in the audience for the first episode. It's not terrible, but not any where near as entertaining as the UK version. There was a stig up on a projection screen moving around on one of the back drops, so I would have to say yes to the american stig question. The UK guys are not in the first episode as they were in another country doing another episode. The US Top Gear has the same writer as the UK one so the show wont really be any different, just the hosts.

The big difference IMO will be how honest the reviews are. The UK crew has the clout to bash and nitpick just about anybody they want to. The Americans don't. Example: Clarkson highlighting all the craptastic things he found when he drove the F-150 Lightning. You won't see that in our version.

I'm going to bet that there will be some pro-domestic politics going on... If not I'll be pleasantly suprised.

Also, the autosports majority here in the US is still locked into either blasting down the 1320 or hauling ass and turning left. I hope they can break that cycle and do some real driving...

As much as I like the origional top gear, I have little faith in the american one. My reason is look at how many shows have pointless drama injected into them, some of them didn't even last long enough to remember the name. Those twins that built the ripsaw had a show that fell on its face, motor city motors floppped, I don't even watch american chopper anymore because of the drama. I think its only chance in being good is if the origoinal writer can keep it humurous instead of gradeschool drama.

Shows like American Chopper are like...reality TV, with the Drama's they have. I don't think the US Top Gear will go down that route, it should be like a TV Magazine, review the cars, blast 'em down some desert roads, maybe get a crawler...blast it through a rocky desert!
As you say, it remains to be seen if it will be done honestly, or whether a bit of corporate influence will water reviews down.

Agreed. There is a mindset here that you can overcome a lack of interesting subject matter with scripted or forced drama.

There wasn't any drama at all actually. It is exactly the same as the UK one in the set up, its just that the hosts aren't British, therefore they are not nearly as funny. :ror: It was still enjoyable though.

The hosts will be what makes it (which is my I kinda question the NA$CAR guy and Faust) , and supposed they will be allowed to say what they think, within decency guidelines of course:roll: If they do it right, it should be capable of blowing all these other "car shows" out of the water (with the exception of Extreme 4x4 or Gearz), much like the British version does"thumbsup"

Fingers crossed the presenters aren't as arrogant and big headed as the 3 jerks on the UK version "thumbsup"

Thats part of what makes the show good. The get to have a sense of humor, which is probably what you are interpreting as being arrogant. At least they aren't talking real slow and plain so the hillbillies can keep up like our shows do...

I guess every ones different, i don't see anything funny any more though.
It's just dumbed down now to the point that my 4 year old understands the show.

It's also the exact same layout, the exact same "jokes" and the exact same scenarios for the past 5 years or so.
It's like a uncle that tells the same bad jokes every Xmas.

Having met Clarkson i can put me hand on me heart and say he is an arrogant jerk.
Never met the other 2, but then why would you want to.

Best thing they could do in the UK show is loose those 3 self promoting jerks and get some proper car enthusiasts in instead "thumbsup"

they all ARE car enthusiasts...

they really only rip apart the cheap, "regular guy" cars and the american cars (can't blame them for that...)

i am a bit worried about the US version because of the serious lack of domestic high end supercars for them to make those beautiful shorts of them that TG does really well..."thumbsup"

There's the Saleen S7 and the Panoz. And since the show will probably die a horrible death after two episodes, that's enough.
