So as someone in Mpls peering over the edge of the rabbit hole that is rc crawling, how do I join your super secret society?

Just bought a trail truck for myself and the kiddo yesterday and am eager to learn. I've been leafing through all the posts here and it seems like a blast!

Looks like I will be able to make that! If we make it, it will be the first experience we've had with any type of RC event... and first experience with any type of crawling that isn't random crap stacked on the grass in the backyard. I assume it wouldn't be an issue to bring the 13 yr old to let him get some time on the stiks, right? We only have one Trail rig, but it sounds like a pretty laid back event and it doesn't sound like anyone would care if the kiddo and I swapped the transmitter back and forth correct?

Ya, no problems there.

Sometimes people have extra trucks too! This is a great crew of guys, new faces are always welcome regardless of age. (We are all 13 yrs old on the inside)

Hey everyone! I'm new to RC crawlers and RC in general. I got myself an axial scx10 deadbolt. I'm running a 5200 mah 2s lipo. So far all I have done to the truck is swap the front to a full 4 link suspension and I have lengthened the stock shocks with longer rc4wd ball ends. I'm in the process of making new Delrin links. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and hope to get some info and hopefully start doing some comps!

Welcome! Take a look around and make sure you read the forum rules. There are a few guys still getting out on trail runs but the comp season is over and won't start up again til late April. It'll give you lots of time to get used to the rug and do any upgrading you think you might need.

Thanks! Yeah I figured the comp season was probably over. I'm new to this forum, so any help on where I can find info on groups or upcoming events in Minnesota would be greatly appreciated!

Your really local to me, but PrivJoker is in Elk River with you, and there's a couple of us down in Rogers as well. There is a quarry over in St Michael next to the BMX track over there that's a good place to do some testing if the weather cooperates.

Welcome to the group/forum

Just got my first crawler. I picked up a second hand SCX10 and have been having a blast messing around with it. I have been having one thing after the next go wrong with it, but think I am finally getting there.

When I got it it had a 20t dynamite motor in it with a trax XL5 ESC and a weak plastic gear servo with a set of nearing bald 1.9 tires of some type. JunFac drive shafts that were a little catchy unless the springs were all the way down.

The motor smoked hill climbing a bridge embankment in the first couple days. Servo needed to go to play in and on rocks. XL5 worked but I wanted 3s. It also came with just a Toyota cab that would not stay on very well so, I modded a stampede cage to fit and made some tins out of a turkey pan and a tonneau cover out of gaff tape. Molded some lexan to the rails to work for a new battery try and electronics tray in the front of the chassis.

I have it in a form now that I am having fun with and have not been having trouble with it thus far. I put a tenergy 45t motor in it. I swapped the trax XL5 out for an Axial esc that will do 3s. Picked up a 1270TG to steer and bumped up to a set of 2.2 Axial bead-locks with RC4WD MudSlinger's Shimmed a few thing and got one longer set of links and a set of MIP drive shafts to take care of the binding. Finally a set of JunFac wheel spacers to allow the 2.2's to clear the cage when its flexing.

Just got done putting my first few 3s packs through it. Had a blast and only a wheel nut came loose.

Hey guys, just picked up a Yeti and I live down in Rochester. Any good leads for local groups between here and the TC area?

Welcome! Be sure to check the 2016 schedule, there will be 2 events down in this area this year, one at Donleys and one at Quarry Hill.
Rochester is pretty quiet for active crawlers, Boopernator and I are the only ones I can recall off hand.

Thanks! Do you guys get together much?

There are many small, friendly groups that get together all year long to play/drive. I run the Snowcrawl, a competition held in my garage, about once a month for my offseason, Thanksgiving to May. Another guy (Nerby) has an indoor course in Wisconsin, about the same distance as TF from the Cities. And there are several guys that get together for trail runs all over the Cites and state, including me. I live in Fridley.

Mostly at club events, but I would be up to meet somewhere sometime time permitting. It's going to be a VERY busy summer for me if things fall in place though.
Send me a PM if you'd like.
