It appears Castle just unveiled a new ESC,

The Castle Copperhead
https://www.horizonhobby.com/produc...-waterproof-esc-internal-bec/CSE10016600.html

1/10 Sensored 2-4s ESC with a built in 6A BEC.

Fits right between the Mamba X and Sidewinder. Should be a good option for those who want to save a little money compared to the mamba/needs a smaller ESC without going Mamba Micro small.

Price is at 119.95 USD according to Horizon Hobby. Not an awful lot cheaper compared to the mamba though. For 30 dollars more you get 2-6s and probably more amps. The copperhead also as a little less data logging features than the Mamba, but most likely still plenty for the average user.

Strangely it's not on the official Castle website yet, but it should get put on there soon.

Interesting, I’ll definitely try one out.

I believe JRH said the SW4 was the smoothest of the ESCs to pair with the Revolvers but it was limited by the lame BEC and 3S max. This could be a great step up from the SW4 if all the hardware and firmware magic that makes SW4 work so good with the sensorless outrunners is inside.

The SW4 is awesome for running outrunners, but they really missed the mark with the internal BEC. This ESC might be a good replacement, allowing me to get rid of the external BEC.

This basically means the Mamba x is about to go up in price. Again.

As long as reliably operates sensored while submarines IM in to try one.

Mamba X size:
Length: 2.14" (54.4mm)
Width: 1.39" (35.2mm)
Height: 1.18" (30.0mm)

Copperhead size:
2.19" x 1.39" x 1.33"

Copied from the castle Creations site...

Looks like no size advantage, unfortunately.

Huh...Didnt see that. So it still might not be for the super scale rigs where all space is at a premium.

And it's not too much lighter it shaves off 30g (70.9) compared to the Mamba X's 101g.

30% weight savings isn’t bad though, the mamba x is a bit heavy so I think it was a good move. This looks like a nice piece. Always good to have another castle option since sw4s, micro x, and mamba x can be hard to find at times.

I imagine the incoming Holmes esc will have a smaller footprint and be lighter as he’ll likely exclude any type of substantial internal bec.

I wish they'd used the same BEC from the Mamba X (8A and more adjustment options), 6A is the bottom end of what I like to have available and I don't love the fact that the Copperhead only has 2 voltage options (5.5V or 7.5V), but other than that it looks like a pretty decent offering.

And it's only water "resistant", the Mamba X is water "proof". That's a bit of a concern to me.
***EDIT - I found more info and I believe it is in fact Waterproof after all.

Realistically the bec is probably adequate but it's a little underwhelming.

I love everything else about it.

'SNIP'

Yeah it should be great for outrunners, they do list the CRYO-DRIVE™ technology which is what JRH had pointed to as the happy accident for why this combo worked so well.

The SW4 is a great (terrible) speaker for outrunners, hopefully the Copperhead isnt as loud.

Its looking like it wont have an auxiliary wire like the X's have. Honestly I think i'm okay with not having that for adjusting the drag brake though, the drag brake ramp and improved downhill control under power makes up for not having it (the aux wire).

I noticed in the optional parts there are a bunch of motor /ESC combos up for pre-order too

Has anyone been able to confirm it will have the drag brake ramp? It doesn't appear to be listed on of the specs I've seen for it so far. I can't see why they wouldn't have it in there since it's just a software feature, but I'm curious since I can't seem to find it in Castle's info..

Yeah i'm just assuming it would have drag brake ramp, they better!

I dont think theres anything new in this but I did spot a video from Castle

I'm sure they do, they'd be crazy not to. I guess even if it got missed on this initial manufacturing run, they added it to the Mamba X on The Sidewinder 4 after release so in theory they should be able to do a software patch anytime to add it in if they need to.

Is Robert still on the boards? Is he still at castle? Haven't seen/heard from him in a while but if he was still around he could probably give us a solid answer..

I'm excited for it, especially since my main complaint of the SW4 is the limit of 3S. If they can get rid of the awful outrunner noise then I'll buy one!

Holmes has been testing these apparently. Maybe he will chime in or, hit him up on IG?

I'm not sure when I seen it but I swear Mr Holmes put out a video about a new speed control he was coming out with that would make revolvers quite, but the whole chip shortage thing pushed it back. But it was going to be released this year yet.
