I'm new to RC Crawling but i'm by no means new to the Rock Crawling sport. I've got 3 jeeps (even a 52 M38 with a Cummins 24 Valve in it ) and i understand the basics on suspension and chassis setups.

My girlfriend bought me a new bright 1/6 jeep for christmas as with kids and work now i don't have as much time to spend on the trails in my full size rigs.

Is this new bright worth building off of or should i just keep it stock and start somewhere else. I've been looking at some truck kits online but would rather build my own. Even though i'm 99% sure i'll butcher the first one i try.

Any thoughts appreciated.

From what I've seen, is some guys will take the body off the new bright jeep, and use it as a scale crawler body. they just toss a new chassis....and basically everything else under it, but it does look shnazzy

I considered that.. stealling the body..

But my thoughts are running along leaving the new bright alone.. atleast it's something the kids can play with if i leave it complete...

The suspension on these things are terrible.. i've already pulled one shock off each wheel.. trimmed the springs to lessen the rate.. and chopped some of the sidewalls out of the tires to soften them up..

Even doing this the motors lack any low range power at all... The stearing is very pathetic as it lacks the strength to even turn full range from friction on carpet alone. For some reason i'm getting sparadic movements on it as well....

yeah, that's to be expected with a "toy class" rc. other than the body, i really can't offer any advice. I'm still a n00b at the crawler scene.

trying to build up a new bright is a lot like trying to make a 1:1 rav4 into a good crawler. the body is the only usable part. And, at that, the body on the new bright is too big and heavy for anything but a scale build. I say leave it for the kids and look into hobby grade stuff. Cruise around this site, there's lots of good info about
building your own rig.
