Ok so i finally, after much thought went out and bought a SCX10 honcho kit.
I immediately ordered a steel outdrive transmission set and axial aluminum knuckles and C hub Carriers. good start right ?

The motor and esc is a Traxxas Velineon system . Im building this kit as a scale trail/ backyard basher.

My questions are concerning how the rig will take to this high speed motor (10 turn i think). What should be upgraded before build or during i should say, and to the guys who have done a similar set up what speed and driving characteristics can i expect.

Last question is how should i gear this to give me optimal all round driving?

All help is appreciated thanks in advance.

Based on how my VXL rus in my MT converted slash I'd say gear it down a bit. Thinking a 9 tooth pinion, but not 100% sure.
Then set your Punch control quite soft to reduce shock on your drivetrain.

I recommend "Beef Toobs" in the axles to anyone. The axles will be stronger and your Cs will stay screwed down.

The stock driveshafts will be a weak link. Lots of threads on the board about using bigger Traxxas shafts and aftermarket options, or run stock for now and hold out for the new Axial shafts that are coming soon (the ones from the Wraith). I don't mind my driveshafts being the weak link. They are cheap and easy to replace rather than damaging something that is hard to get at.

thanks for the reply, so are there any good local places to buy axial parts rather than ordering everything. i got the kit from rc pit stop in langley but didnt have the time to ask for parts or what they have to offer. i was browsing the axial option parts and i came across the bevel gear set one low and one high would those be a good option as well.

First thing I would is beef up the trani being that all the power will gi there first. I have all Robison Racing in mine and works perfect am running a 5T HH Torque Master. As far as the axles I went with all Vanquish Products. In the axles I went with super 300's cvd for the front and my front axle has axials bevel gear and I have in the rear axial under bevel gear works perfect. Hope this helps.

Good thread. Just want to stay informed. I'm on the market for an scx10 too

Go-Go hobbies in coquitlam is the closest to you that I know about, but if you are placing a big or expensive order its often better to get a shipping box south of the border and mail-ordering stuff to there. That especialy goes for batteries. GensAce lipos from HobbyPartz are a great value.

I have been told that the over/underdrive gears are great if you are mostly on dirt and/or if your drivetrain is bulletproof, but on high traction rock they put a LOT of stress of your tranny, driveshafts, and dogbones/cvds. I thought I needed them to get better control, but balancing the weight and some suspension tuning did the trick instead.

Check out my thread in the Scale Video section to see where we play out here in Abby.
