This is my first ever RC Kit Build. I tried to keep everything fairly simple and on a budget. I really like how it all came out and I look forward to learning how to crawl with it as is.

Here is a list of everything I used to build and the cost of the build:

Axial Jeep Rubicon Kit - $260 Tower Hobbies Sale and Coupons
Axial 27T motor (new) - $13.50 Ebay
Pactra Metallic Black 3oz Spray Paint - $5.50 Ebay
Savox SC0251MG Servo (new) 222 oz Torque - $35 Ebay
Traxxas XL-5 esc (new) - $30 Ebay
Futaba R603FS Rx (used) - $45 RCTech Member
Futaba 3PKS already have for my Savage XL
Used Nimh and Lipo Batteries I already had for my sons Duratrax Evader ST

Total Cost: $389

A couple pics of the finished build. Will post more outdoor shots as I get a chance to do more crawling. Thanks for looking.

Thanks, I plan on upgrading parts as they break. I'm pretty sure the first thing will be some beadlocks because glue on tires are a pain. Then later on a Holmes Hobbies brxl esc and motor. My iphone doesn't take the best pics either, I will have to take some pics outside with my gopro.

On the body I tried painting it with Pactra Pearl White and got a little impatient and had runs in the paint so I ended up painting over the outside. The top I painted on the inside and it turned out shiny and nice.

I plan on making battery mounts on the inside of each slider and running two 2000 mah lipos in parallel to help keep the weight down low and I also added 3oz of wheel weights in each of the front tires to help keep them planted. I double balloon wrapped my Rx and also used two zip ties. The esc is also waterproof so I should be able to do some mudding and shallow creek runs. If the servo fails in the water then I will just upgrade to the savox SW-1210SG waterproof servo that has the same 222 oz of torque. But mostly I just plan on upgrading parts as they wear out or fail with better stuff.

Decided to add a few things to my build. Just in case your wondering why my trasnmission is reversed it's because I have a Vanquish Hurtz Shifter 3 Position Dig on the way "thumbsup"

Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster waterproof brxl expert combo (Cyber Monday Sale)- $105
Thunder Power 2s 2250 Lipo's - $28 for both
Lara Croft and Edward Cullen 7" figures - $40
Spare Tire Cover (Ebay) - $10

It's the 7" Neca Tomb Raider Underworld Lara Croft. Unfortunately it was made in 2008 so ebay is probably your only option. Both figures legs slips on and off so it made it easier to fit into the jeep. I just had to cut tight fitting holes in each seat and I just wedged them in, ha. They have been staying in place though counting the number of times I've flipped the jeep over. I also bought a 6" figure and it doesn't look scale at all so I didn't use it.

So now what to do with all the extra parts? Oh yeah, my wife said she wanted one of her own so I just scored another deal on a rubicon kit from Tower Hobbies for $215 shipped. "thumbsup" We both like to compete so it should be alot more fun hitting the trails now. Although I will have to keep the Holmes Hobbies my little secret!

Thats a good looking jeep.. Now it's time to start looking at driveshafte and a 32p spur and pinion.. The driveshafts are nice but they twist fast with a good motor.. At least carry spares for now..

Just installed the dig. Something seems to be binding and it sounds terrible in reverse like something might have broken. The transmission is fine. It may be something in one of the axles. Guess I need to tear into them and find what is going on. I can see the plastic driveshafts lasting about a day now, ha. Could anyone recommend some good driveshafts that will work with the vanquish dig?

Is the spare tire cover marketed as a spare tire cover for RC tires or was it something else that just worked for the job? It adds a cool touch.

I still haven't painted my SCX10 Rubicon body but bought red paint with the idea I'd paint it the same color scheme it is in the box. I'm really rethinking that now after looking at your black paint job. Looks great!
