MSD UTE build: The Blue Lux

I am liking the way this rig is coming along so I decided to treat with some real axles...RC4WD Ultimate Yota axles  I have a set of these under the Atomic Toy and they are hands down the best axle currently available for a Toyota build IMO.

I pulled the TLTs out from under the UTE and when I went to slide the Yotas under I quickly found that the spacing was way off :-x a quick measurement and I found out that I needed to remove 6mm off of the cross members to get the spacing where I needed it to be

After modifying all the cross members I was able to put them in

The sliders still fit fine, the main bar is exactly under the pinch weld now and I was able to re-space my rear bumper. Down side is my front bumper no longer fits :-( Have to get into the garage and build a new one...

I have to pick up some aluminum stock and make a new cross member, I am going to bolt it flat across the bottom of the chassis this time. Doing this will allow me to significantly drop the TC which will give me better drive line angles and allow me to drop the floor board down more.

That is it for now, thanks for looking

I thought all the scale RC4WD axles were built using the same spread as the TLT axles. Glad I didnt just look at the Awesome pics and actually read this time

Trucks looking great Mike. Hows the SAS coming on the 1:1?

actually, the Ultimate axles do have the same spread as the tlt mounting holes, it was the chassis that was to wide. When I had the tlts on it, I had to drill my own holes next to the existing holes on the side of the axle has them mounter diagonally from each other.

1:1 SAS is a sore subject right now :| 1 of the 600$ Chromoly birfield joints was machined incorrectly and it was causing the one side to bind up horribly...I couldnt even get the locking hub on or anything and the steering would go to shit and get all tight...I even broke one of the hubs in the process and couldnt get just the body and had to buy a whole assembly through my dealer at my cost of 235$ just for 1  My stepdads friend who has a machine shop is tryingt to fix it for me since my friend didnt have the reciept for them and I am not the original owner I doubt the manufacturer can do much for me... I also still do not have a 220 outlet in the garage for my friend and I to do the cutting and welding...so bascially I have the entire suspension system from trail gear just sitting in the garage right now...sux...I did order my snorkel though this week, only to find out it doesnt fit the EFI motor so I have to plumb it myself. Now you know why I have been busy with the RCs again...1:1 was frustrating the shit out of me:|

This thing looks sexy as hell!
Makes me want to build a yoter.
I wish they had these axles around when you had the clone.

hey mike if not to much trouble could you get a measurement from center to center on the leaf mounting bolts in mm please.
i was thinking that they made the width for the f350/hilux frames not tlt,
and with out the axles in my hands i was using a f350 to set my frame up for front leafs and having a hard time cuz its to wide.

thanx"thumbsup"

You are correct, they have the same spacing as high lift axles so they would be a direct bolt up to a stock frame. Tlt axles if ran up side down have holes that would also be a direct match up for a high lift frame. When I had my high lift I actually put TLTs under it to narrow up the stance "thumbsup" Ill get you a measurement though if ya want just in case .

Worked only a half today at the bike shop, cut out early cause it was dead :| No sense in the boss paying me to shoot the shit with him...Got home, grabbed the Blue Lux and headed into the garage...2 hours later, several trips from the basement to the garage, and one burnt right middle finger (Ouch, always remember that hot metal looks like cold metal) I came up with this. Is basically the same except I narrowed the stinger and brought the uprights to the top of it.

that sucks on the 1:1, i remember playing with the tools on my old Blazer and having similar fun.

Bumper looks good. cant wait for spring/summer to roll and get all these rigs together somewhere. "thumbsup"

You know, you people crack me up...you come to our site here and just think you are some sort of primadona because you have a BOUGHT built 1:1... Allow me to put you in your place...

MY R/C collection, could buy that truck of your brothers about 10x over... And that is no Joke...I just sold 3 of my trucks 2 weeks back for just under 3gs. Congrats on buying an already built truck, that must have been a lot of fun rebuilding the engine from the block up...O wait...you didn't do that because it runs "smooth" right? Must have had even more fun putting that SA in...O wait, you bought an 85...didnt have to... Congrats on living next to marlin, must be nice to walk in and grab what you want...I did what most normal people do and called and ordered my front bumper and sliders from them...

Some people, prefer to BUILD there own trucks...the way they want it to be and so they know it will hold up to more then one trail ride...I have rebuilt my engine from the block up, new bearings and everything. I have a 3" trail-gear SAS kit in the garage and have an 85 front axle here at work with 4.88s, ARB locker, and Bobby Long Birfs... although judging by your tude, youll probably be one of those who buys and scx10, slams a hilux body on it with every scale accessory he can find and thinks he has the greatest scale rig of all time.

You have a lot to learn Drunk...you dont join our forum here and mock senior members. Respect is earned here, I suggest you sit back and do a lot of reading before opening your mouth again

Updates later guys, I have the body here at work with me...Bed is repainted and is getting rhinolined and the front inner fender is nearing completion

-Mike
well put... ive been wheelin for awhile now. i built my 85 from literally the ground up, and i can tell when ppl put time and energy into there projects. looking at the creativity and effort u put into ur scale truck, ur not just every other guy taking an ax10 and putting 1.9s and a semi scale body on it... props to u for building a rig. not throwing down 4k on a pos, with a chincy lift and maybe a welded rear end and calling it a "crawler"...

oh ya, Drunkdriver... ur a tool. ur the guy who takes that crappy toy through the trail, rolls or breaks, and wonders why... prob because u bought a crappy toy for 2k"thumbsup" dont brag about that... sorry to hijack the thread with that. ur build is amazing and ill be watching this one...
