Back from the grave after almost a decade thanks to Axials AX24 XC-1. Thank you Axial.

Bought my 3 boys and me each an AX24 (2 of each colour scheme) for Christmas.

I don’t want to blather so I’ll just keep this a low key, info/picture heavy, lightly worded, no kvlt super chill buildy thread.

I’m not seeing too much info on these things online other than some you tube stuff like Cape Crawlers channel so I thought I’d post up here and maybe share a little with y’all and hopefully learn sum too.

I’m struggling trying to find options for certain parts such as decent ESC and motor options.
If anyone reading this sees a way that you can help out by sharing some info or by filling in answers to my inquiries by all means please do!

Like I said I Basically have 4 of these things and each will be built a little different most likely.

I am using my phone to post so bare that in mind with all my grammar and spelling unnoticed auto corrections.

To start I will ask the community at large to please share what ESC & motors are good upgrades for the AX24! If you know of some that are direct bolt in options or wether there is some modification needed I would love to hear it so thanks in advance!

Alright that does it for the introduction post. See you soon with the more interesting follow ups.

Thanks again and take care out there!

To start it was the basic tires and wheels upgrade along with high clearance links upgrades on the first three from left to right.

Mine is the black and green on the far right and will be the main focus of the thread. I am running high clearance links but also extending the wheel base (6mm front, 18mm rear). Found here. This kit is from Ramp Crab.

The Hi clearance links are from Injora (X003SOOPMF)

*this post should contain pictures, if not bare with me as I figure out how to navigate this forum correctly again.

The first problems we had were my oldest son blowing both of his servos. First the front. So we took the rear servo and put it on the front then we made a wooden block for the rear servo slot and screwed the steering links to it to keep the rear wheels straight forgoing 4WS. This worked like a charm until the other servo blew. By that time the replacement Ramp Crab 2.6kg servo set had arrived and we swapped them out. They can be found here. These are just a little longer than stock so the require a bit of fitment fun.

Next while I was having fun on this gorgeous bedrock at Incinerator Rock beach near Tofino BC (pictured), I rolled my rig into the tiniest of tide pool puddles. The smallest little splash, just a few drops really, managed to hit my ESC and that was the end of my reverse function. Now from time to time it refuses to also go forward.
I have been trying to find a decent ESC / Motor combo to replace my fubared stock setup. Still having trouble with that so any suggestions would be appreciated!

Next my second oldest son who also has a black and green rig sheared off the internal gears of one of his servos. So we stole gears from the other crapped out servos and managed to get his working again. Lucky. New servos are on order. I am expecting some Ramp Crab 6kg sets to arrive shortly. They can be found here.

in the meantime some other parts started to arrive.

I grabbed a set of HUGE wheel weights 70g for super wheels Found here. Got some 1.8” CF super wheels (here) and ordered some oversized 1.3” pin tires to mount. Had to chop them up and do some gluing. Just like the old 2.2 comp voodoo days ahhhh memories ☺️. Those pin tires got a tread chop treatment as well and absolutely work swell. Only problem is now I am way too narrow and will have to get some brass hub extensions to widen my WB. But that is the way of it brothers. Mo’ mod. Mo’ problems. Mo’ mods. 😵‍💫😁

Many parts are on order. Lots of fun to be had. These AX24s absolutely SLAY btw.
If I can recommend tires to anyone the INJORA 1.0 Tires-S4 Multi Terrain Pin Crawler Tires are THE BEST hands down. Just like the Voodoos of old these are untouchable. I tried them for a bit before I threw my supers together and I LOVED them. If I wasn’t rocking mad wheel weights I’d be running these things. They are almost the same height as my super set up!

Many many more things to do to these Little Rock chirps but first I have to get the damn thing strong enough to push itself around!

Hope I can find a decent ESC and motor combo. Hopefully even switch to 3s in the process.

I run these YSS chassis on my 2.2 MOA Pro still and absolutely LOVE that chassis!! I wish I could make a 1/24 YSS chassis for this little thing too! I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. Maybe so
Done out there could help me with that?

If not I am considering putting a new chassis on this thing. Looking at The Kangaroo or the Injora Rock Buggy. I’d much prefer a CF YSS (see my Quantum Theory 2.2 build HERE)

Again I’ll leave off here for now which these questions for you:

1) ESC/motor combo, suitable replacement that could support 3s? Any suggestions?

2) anyone think they are able to do a YSS chassis in a 1/24 size for me? $$
Perhaps I’ll reach out to the the man who designed the YSS and took worlds with it but I don’t think he can be reached from what I remember.

Cheers!

The injora brushed set up is cheap sub $40 and very smooth and can be used with the 2-1 receiver combo bypassed its rated for 3s. Specially if you have multiple to upgrade .... the esc will work with the stock motor too but the injora purple is much better.

Well I picked up the “FURITEK Stinger Brushless Power System for SCX24 with Micro Komodo Motor LIZARD PRO ESC“ for entirely too much money… hopefully it goes together without any issues when it comes.
I’ve got big plans for my Super Micro. Soon I think I’ll have done everything there is to do to it.

Sucks not being able to drive it around atm though. Can’t believe such a minuscule drop of salt water was able to burn out that Esc.

Honestly though I really wish I’d kept it closer to stock with just electronic upgrades and metal over plastic links.

It would be nice to see a ‘hardware size upgrade’ option some how. These tiny screws are just constantly coming loose and threatening to strip the heads and threads at the tiniest hint of over tight and I dare not put loctite on them.

Sons under drive & Injora 50t motor came in today. So that’s good. It’ll be nice to see how that motor affects the rig with the stock Esc.

Just a waiting game for my parts now.

Yes I’ve got my oldest son the motor but not an Esc. Which Injora Esc is a fit? Will do my other boys the Injora combo most likely later as well although it would be nice to try different brands and set ups when it comes to that combo. You know, for science. I’m just not sure of all the fits.

Anyone out there wanna hold my hand and drop a link to various known Compatible Esc & motor combos I’ll give them a go on separate rigs and will be able to drop a comparison review for the masses.
