Michigan Roll Call

Ok, here is my rundown of the event......We got to Freddies around 9:15am, it's a cool little hobby shop. They have a big asphalt oval out back and a smaller carpet one indoors. The crawling area takes up about a 1/4 of the pit space. Pits are well sorted and everyone has an electrical outlet. The owner even seemed interested at times, although he admited he like going fast instead. Super cool that he let the NOSTR guys build this thing...... The course is made from burlap and layered styrofoam, then wall plaster, and epoxy hold it all together. The epoxy section has traction, and the plastered areas are qiute challenging. OK enough of that on to the comp.

We had drivers meeting to make sure everyone understood the rules, and the first truck hit the course at 10:20 1.9 scale trucks first the 2.2 scale, and finally 2.2comp. Each truck ran 2 courses back to back. the first course was techical, but driveable, the second course was evil! I don't think one person ran it clean. Then like in racing once you ran the course you scored the next driver. Not everyone was ready to do this, or had done it in the past. This did lead to some confusion. Also each drivers score was totaled after each run. That along with allowing repairs on course slowed the program a little. I liked the way we did our last comp with 2-3 dedicated people to score, and keep the program moving. In 1.9 scale there were 7 trucks, including the VW van very cool. 1.9s finished around 12.30. 2.2 scale kicked off and with only 5 trucks The Mich boys were shooting for the podium. Gary's new set up has a ton of travel, and I think he ran the first course clean so did Stu and I. the second course had you start in the tunnel, and either turn up a super sharp off camber slope, or head for the bowl. which nobody escaped without help. Tough set up. Due to the time, and weather concerns I80/90 was due for 6-12 we bolted before the 2.2 comp besides all I had was my Ford to run.

All in all it was cool to see everyone and check out all the rigs and new
ideas. I did learn that when I buy 1.9 tires they will not be mudslingers. They look great but this course was a little slick. The NOSTR guys had a good first indoor comp, and they will only get smoother with time. Gary is a good traveling buddy. Thanks again "thumbsup"I'm sure I missed something but thats all for now. Results are posted here http://z7.invisionfree.com/Nostr/index.php?showtopic=320&st=0#entry11119048

looks like you hit the nail on the head chris, that is a good write up. over time i hope they learn that they need to get the ball rolling at the time they stated and keep it going just like a assembly line, no bs-ing after each run and checking scores. other than that the course was ok just wish they would have run us on the good stuff in the middle rather than going around the outside edge.

Thanks for coming out fellas! I'm REALLY glad you posted up that honest review! It was a great read.

I think you are right about dedicating a few people to scoring. Recently it worked well handing it off to the next driver but that was when we only have 6-7 people showing and with the amount of people that showed up it started getting a little time consuming. We'll chalk that one up to experience!

Hopefully there will be some smoother sailing in the future. "thumbsup"

I have no doubt you guys will smooth things out. you got a great place to play and a solid crew"thumbsup" While dedicating 2-3 people to just score and line folks up will be a lot of work, it pays off. Looking forward to the next event. I want a piece of that mountian. Thanks again.

X2 on the honest review. it was good to met you guys and I had a blast. I agree that the way we had scored in the past didnt work so well with mixed group. and next time having a couple judges assigned just to score will be a big help.
keep a eye open for the winter schedule we will post it up by the end of the week we are planning something big. looking forward to having you back. "thumbsup"

How do you guys feel about the schedule and event times? (drivers meeting, tech, etc) I'm not sure how much time to allow for people to get in the door, setup and get their rigs ready to run. I don't want to give to much time but don't want to fall behind either (like saturday). I thought about only giving 30 minutes for tech and registration?

that sounds fine nick. that should be plenty of time for people to get there stuff ready and inspected."thumbsup"

binary what do you mean by that.

here is a list of the scores for 2.2 comp rigs. Matt (Crawln coles) was running an axial with an R2 in it and some other minor mods. Brandon was running an axial too. As you can see Billy and Tom a couple gates ahead of the game and places 3+ were all practically within one gate or less of each other.

2.2 Comp

1 - Billy - (-2)
2 - Tom - 0
3 - Brandon - 42
3 - Harley - 42
5 - Matt - 52
6 - Mike - 66
7 - Stu - 71
8 - Nick - 76
9 - Nat - 82
Todd - DQ (53 course 1)
Zach - DQ (41 course 1)
Zach - DNF (48 course 1)
Chris - DNF
Tim - DNF

did you measure from axle stub to axle stub? max wheelbase is 12.5 to be legal...after christmas I might have the AX10 bug

well with bent links at both ends the rig is at 12.75 inches

stub to stub...

i have not put in the 70 mill uper links since they are not in yet

i think i can cut an 1/8 inch off of each bent link to get back down to 12.5 but u would think that these parts would have been thought out a bit better

saul you have to trim them down on each a little bit like you said.

just thought i would post a couple pics of my new bender customs sw3 happy holidays every body.
