Metal-gear micro servos for Summit?

Those look interesting, wondering how reliable though, some of AMains' house brand stuff is not good. :ror: ....and some is.

Very intriguing. It's nice to see Traxxas finally doing something about their crappy plastic-geared micro servos. I suppose a glacial pace of product improvement is the dark side of having spare parts in-stock for years and years.

Thinking about it more, I'm going to stick with the Blue Bird servos, because in addition to having metal gears they also have ball bearings. Ball bearings mean the gears are unlikely to bind against the servo housing if the mounting screws are tightened a bit too much, like the stock Summit/TRX-4 servos do. (seriously, Traxxas' official recommendation is to keep the micro servo mounting screws slightly loose to prevent binding.) Until I see a TRX 2065X dissected and confirmed to have ball bearings, the Blue Bird servo is still a better bet.

Small update, yes I know it has been a while...
I needed that TGY212 servo back for something else because they are now discontinued. But I replaced it with a Turnigy TGY-390V servo which uses an identical case but with different gear ratios. It's not as fast but has more torque. I think it actually works better in the Summit. There wasn't anything wrong with the TGY212 but they are discontinued I decided to keep it for a 1/12 pan can since it's brilliant in that application.
Other servos that would fit directly and use the stock servo horn are:
TGY-390DMH : Same specs as 390V but a bit more expensive, not sure why.
TGY-210DMH : Less torque than 390V but still adequate for the job.

Thanks for the info. My Blue Bird servos are still working fine, but if they die someday now I know what I can replace them with.
