Got a two month old son at home now which has greatly reduced my chances for racing so I'm looking for a way to still get my RC fix and crawling looks to be a good choice.
Not looking to do any competitions right off the bat but if I can find a crawling club close to me in Indiana I may go that direction eventually.
Anyway, I have spent quite a few hours now looking around these forums seeing what people are saying about crawlers for beginners. There is one obvious choice and that is the Axial ARTR. I was a hairs width away from ordering one of these when I saw someone mention the new Losi comp crawler that is going to be coming out soon. I've always been a Losi guy and from looking at this rig it is quite impressive I must say.
BUT, the problem is with my patience. Do I wait until March to try to get one of these? Who knows how many have been pre-ordered and when I could get my hands on one, or do I go ahead and get the Axial and enjoy crawling now? The Axial has a tremendous following and aftermarket support is out of this world with all the available options and I honestly think I wouldn't be going wrong but the Losi is still really tempting. Especially having the front and rear dig already installed where as the Axial doesnt out of the box.
For recreational crawling will the front and rear dig be that much more beneficial or are there dependable bolt on kits to do this with the axial?
Also, when it comes to ESC and Motor do people prefer brushed or brushless? I currently have GTB's with brushless motors and have had nothing but awesome luck with them and will probably continue to buy Noval products. But do I go with the Rooster/55T or Goat and 18.5BL?
Here is my current shopping list. Help me narrow this down please!!
Rig: Axial ARTR with additional stage 2 kit from CKRC OR Losi Comp Crawler
Radio: Spektrum DX6i (for future rigs or capabilities)
Battery: 2S or 3S Lipo (Saddle pack maybe)
ESC and Motor: Rooster and 55T or Goat and 18.5
Servo: Hitec 7955TG V2 (Any other recommendations)
Any information would be greatly appreciated. The weather here in Indiana is still pretty crappy right now so honestly I wouldn't be out doing much crawling which leads me to just buy things like the radio and servos now and wait for the Losi to come out. But like I mentioned before the Axial looks like a great platform to start out with also.
Thanks!
