Ok so my 12 yr old killed the 2s losi lipo ($30) as low voltage.. was able to charge it as nihm once and get it to take a few charges after that.. but not now.. he did it again and it wont charge...

so that got me thinking...

i want to have some low voltage in the losi trekker and redcat sumo.

will this work?
Low Voltage Buzzer Alarm Indicator 2S 4S LiPo Battery | eBay

how do you wire it as im guessing.. 1 ground and 2 wires for 2s and up?
seems straight forward...

Yep, I actually just got an alarm yesterday, but the one I got can be programmed for the alarm to go off at any voltage you want. It also tells you exactly how many volts each cell has and the overall battery voltage. It's more expensive, but I'm very happy with it. I'll link it to this post.
This is it, it's nice cause it works with 1s to 8s lipos

I know this seems like a silly question, but doesn't your esc have a a LVC (low voltage cut-off) it seems so common these days, and especially if your gonna run lipos... honestly though, and please don't take offense to this as I mean it in the nicest possible way, buuuut.... You're son wouldn't know any better... it seems like it was your responsibility to ensure there was no over discharge or at least educate him of the dangers of this happening. The best solution I think for you is an esc with LVC. "thumbsup"

the advantage of LVC vs LVA (alarm) is the vehicle stops automatically and can't be driven anymore to protect the battery from harm, an alarm technically can be ignored and continued use could happen.

name brand.. cant beat that..!!!!

Can these low voltage lipo alarms be used in conjunction with the ESC that has voltage cutoff. Seems like a good security

because they are only a couple bucks each and I have had 1 occurance where the lipo cutoff didnt activate on my sidewinder... $2.00 is cheap insurance and neither one over-rides the other

I've got something similar...

Value Hobby R/C Hobby Store (Bensenville, Illinois): GT Power 1-8S LiPO Battery Voltage Tester/ Low Voltage Alarm

Very loud and annoying, but it works nicely. I don't have lipo cutoff enabled on my escs, and I bought it mainly to check voltage so I don't grab a low pack when I'm out, but it'll work as a regular alarm as well.

Thanks man! just ordered 3 of these..

2 for micro crawlers and 1 for the M14 I just got... want to make the M14 2s lipo instead of the nicd it runs now...

in the states so on regular shipping I should get it pretty quick vs the 1 month from boat!

THANKS!!!! "thumbsup"

Question for you guys with these external LiPO alarms, do they also alarm if a single cell drops? Or, is it only pack voltage?
Is the limit adjustable and if so, how (cable, switch, etc.)

I would assume cell voltage, but curious.8)

I realize different brands/models may work differently.

I believe HeyOK has an adjustable one.

The one I have is completely adjustable and if one cell drops it will go off. It's also super loud, got it to go off last night.

I have a couple (non-adjustable) Doohan LVAs for 2S, they measure overall pack voltage (only a red and a black wire coming off them). I don't remember at what voltages the beeping and flashing kicks in. When I initially bumped up to 3S, I made an adapter and just measured off cells 1&2 and trusted #3 to keep itself in line. Now I let the Sidewinder Micros' LVCs handle the cutoff duties at 3.5vpc. I've found my batteries will dump to the point where I can't even crawl up onto stuff before cutoff even kicks in. (3.6, 3.5, 3.6, as checked on my Sentry EOS last time I ran)

The mfc-02 (tamiya esc/sound/vibration/light) control unit does not have a LVC and it was designed for nicd i believe. Just an example of where a LVA comes in handy

the ones i got are pretty nifty, plug them in and they continuously flash each cells voltage, then total pack voltage. i havnt messed with programming or tested the low voltage detection since i just got them yesterday. but they have a chirp when you first plug them in thats pretty loud. about the same pitch and decibles of a fire alarm. they were 7 bucks on ebay

I just got a.low voltage alarm. I can set it to alarm anywhere from 3.0 to 3.8 volts. What is a good setting to protect my lipos?
