LJD RC's IFS2 Dakota

Here's my 10.2 that I have frankensteined an Element IFS2 front end onto. It's currently running the stock Blazer body but I plan to put a Proline Dakota body onto it (paired with magnetic body mounts so I don't have to drill holes). I also plan to set up a 2 speed for it as well since it has the right transmission for it. So far I've installed:

- Integy 110mm front shocks
- Integy shock towers
- Integy rear axle
- Integy transmission housing
- SCX10 III stock electronics
- TRX4 rear shocks
- (can't remember the brand, somethin off Amazon) Rear mount battery tray
- BFG KO2 1.9s
- Stock 10.3 1.9 KMC beadlocks
- Integy transmission skid

Not much, actually. The shock tower bolt holes lined up almost perfectly with the bolt holes on the mount, though I did have to cut the mount a bit to get it to fit within the frame rails, as the Enduro has straight front frame rails while the 10.2's are curved.

Went out and did a fun trail with @Wraith1985 and his TRX4 Wrangler, it actually performed way better than I was expecting, that geode did really well lol

Small update on the IFS2 truck. It's been working great, though I've put it on the backburner a bit to focus on my other builds. I'd been driving it around while my Gladiator was torn down, and I never had any problems with it. At least, until the front end decided to give me some problems the other day.

I was hanging out with a friend of mine and we went out for a drive with our 10 IIs. Randomly, I heard the ring and pinion begin to occasionally grind or skip. I brought it home and tore it down, and metal shavings galore (kinda hard to see on camera but there's a good amount).

I'm assuming that it was a mixture of my front driveshaft being too long and putting pressure on the gear, and the fact that there's a bearing that seems to be missing that was not included in the kit originally (see 1st pic).

Welp, I had a nice IFS truck for a few months. Hopefully I can find a bearing that will fit and a new ring and pinion. If anyone has any tips or advice please let me know, I'm still new to Element trucks/parts and have no idea what I'm doing. I'm an Axial guy, I've never really dealt with other brands before.

Yeah, that was probably most of it. I do believe that the driveshaft might have also been shoving the pinion forward as well, which probably isn't very good.

Well, it moved it in many different directions once the driveshaft got bumped a few times. Bummer! Do the IFS2 kits already come assembled? Maybe get ahold of the manufacturer and see if they can help a brother out.

It came pre-assembled, though I don't know if they'd cover it or not. I'll see what I can manage, but I'll probably just grab a new ring and pinion set and a new front driveshaft. It is what it is, lol.

I saw your report on the IFS2 and had to double check mine. Mine also came preassembled but I had opened it up and shimmed the pinion on the inside to get proper gear mesh. Both bearings were indeed there.

I had also noticed the driveshaft being at the long end of fitting so I shortened it up a few millimeters to make sure it wasn't doing anything unintentionally. Then after reading your findings I decided to make it few extra millimeters shorter just now.

Got it just kinda chillin in the closet, haven't really done much with it. I've not ordered the diff gears for it just yet, have kinda been waiting for another detail job first. Looks good when paired with my old SCX1 though. Might make a thread for that truck later, I've actually got some questions about it.

Sure! I'm at school currently, I'll take some pics when I get home. It's the factory mount plate from Element, but I've cut the ends a bit to get it to fit within the frame rails. The bolt holes are actually almost perfectly aligned with the shock tower bolt holes in the frame.

(Don't mind the dirt lol, I need to clean this thing up badly) I unfortunately don't have any of the plate removed, but I will say that generally the only cuts you'll need to make are just to make it fit in the curved rails. Other than that it bolts right up. I hope this helps, I'm definitely excited to see how that build goes! IFS trucks are super cool. Good luck!

Picked up a new ESC for it since they were on sale. Gonna pick up a new Flysky receiver and use my GT5 from my Gladiator with it.

Funnily enough this is the same ESC that used to be in here before I put the 2-in-1 in. That one is in my Ridgecrest at the moment. This ESC was better anyway lol.
