Wow. Thats a nicely machined skid! I would be entertained with the process to make that thing.

I wonder if you will be able to get away with the skid and no tongues? I have the front of my skid super, super short and have no issues.

The flats on the top are for the tongues?

The tongues are not needed just an option for electronics placement if need be.

You forgot to pocket mill the deck surface:flipoff:

JK! That looks fantastic. Great job

Thanks guys! I'll post some in-progress pictures later. It's pretty simple after I quit over thinking it:oops:

Alright, last thread jacking...

Top path...

Two finished tops from a 3/8" blank...

Bandsaw skids out of the blank...

Fixture that quickly locates the skid relative to machine zeros. Skids bolt on each end and attach with double sided tape in the middle. Note: don't use 7075 for fixturing!

Bottom path...

Finished bottom...

Milled slots into the fixed jaw to drop the skid into to drill the link holes. Again; quick, easy and repeatable.

For starters you scrap a HSS end mill when you dive in with the feeds set for 6061. But yeah, because its so much harder the machine time was longer than that of the skid itself!

Man, all that beautiful work....
...and then we're just going to abuse the hell out of them dragging 'em over rocks, gouging them up:mrgreen:

...can't wait"thumbsup"

Is there a reason that you cut them out of the stock by hand before they go in the fixture? It seems like an extra step over having a fixture that holds both skids. I'm just curious. They sure are absolutely beautiful.

I don't know and I'm probably weird but my trucks always had to be as flawless as possible on the bench in order for me to have fun thrashing it on the rocks. The first scratch is the best!

Honestly, I wasn't planning for any mass production so a single part fixture seemed legit. But with the response we have received so far a better plan of attack will be needed for sure.

Edit: holy ginormous!

Just pulled into the driveway from a few days vacation to see these laying at the front door:twisted:

The bar has yet again been raised in the stubby motor department!!
