Knightrunner and Utron projects

Re: Knightrunner, similar to my 1:1

I've had glitches caused by water. These 1080s somehow survive though, dry out and good to go. Last one was the switch I think, once I blew in it everything worked again lol.

One thing I remember from castle years ago, they seem to survive just about anything. Might not be happy about it at first, but damn near nuke proof.

Your pics would be a lot easier for us to look at if you would reduce their size before you post them. "thumbsup"

Fwiw op, I always use “medium” size when posting pics on Tapatalk. [emoji1687]

Agreed - not to pile on..."thumbsup"

But the rule for the forums is as follows:

"Pics should be no more than 1200 pixels wide x 1200 pixels tall to keep upload times of the pages reasonable."

We WANT to see the pics, don't get us wrong!

Well shoot. I never realized it was an issue. On my app they are like perfect size. Pretty sure I even paid more into the app to have the pics to be uploaded in larger/ better quality? I think that’s what it was.

Anyway, I’ll make sure to do that. Usually if they were too big it just wouldn’t upload them.

I got it now! I didn’t realize that before. Figured they were the correct size before, but no one ever said anything before…. Thanks!

Re: Knightrunner, similar to my 1:1

Spent the later part of my evening refreshing this thing. After a lot of abuse, it was due.

Tore it all down, cleaned it with a tooth brush.

Took apart the trans and removed the stock gears and opted for the 26/54, higher OD than stock. Replaced the other set of gears for steel ones as well. Cleaned and greased with marine grease now.

Thanks to NSDRC I got my warrantied servo back, that went right into it. It runs off a 3s lipo, separate from the drive battery. Adds a bit of weight up front, which may have downsides, to me it’s been great keeping that front end down.

Now that clear bodies are plentiful, I should just order one and get this one step closer to being a 1/10 rep of my 1:1. Still chewing over how I’ll do a matte finish with the paint on the inside of the body…

I do see some steel bumpers have came out for these trucks, just not sold on them. I’d love to add a winch. A winch that actually looks like a winch behind the bumper. Might have to play with a servo winch due to the room needed to fit a winch and trim down one of the many winches I have laying around. Thinking I can just use the dummy winch as a placeholder for the line and make it appear to be coming from the dummy.

Looking forward to “my” rc wheeling season- winter/ spring!

Re: Knightrunner, similar to my 1:1

Would it work to spray matte clear on the outside?

I’m not sure. I’m not much of a painter. I just know it needs to be pretty durable. This gray body is covered in scratches so whatever is on the outside will likely be rubbed off the first time out.

I’ve been looking for a matte red but haven’t found any.

Re: Knightrunner, similar to my 1:1

I have done the Tamiya PS-55 FLAT CLEAR spray on a couple of my bodies - it is very durable.

Also makes the vehicle look more scale, less toy-like.

Highly recommended..."thumbsup"

Re: Knightrunner, similar to my 1:1

Agree with the Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear. It will give a mattte (dull) finish on the outside! Used it on all of my bodies and it works well. It is durable and easy to touch up if it get scraped off.

That’s good to know! I’m gonna pick up some and give it a shot.

Back again!

Picked up the UTron from my LHS to check out this fancy new ifs. Just found out about it last night after searching for rebuild parts for my old one.

It’s pretty neat. The design is nice, imo body is so-so. Gonna post it up for sale here soon.

Plan is to rebuild a new 3rd gen tacoma with this. New body, new bed, all that stuffs. To make it as close as possible to my 1:1.

Tires feel grippy but I do not like the writing on the treads, call me what you want lol. Those will be FS soon too.

The Tacoma does have the bow house parts, taller 1.9s and heavy front end. So it usually sags the front end all the time anyway. Not to mention it’s been beaaaat on.

To the good stuff: Comparison shots
