I was thinking about picking up a 10.3 but people complain about the 2 speed transmission gearing being next to useless. Has anybody manufactured gears for this that make it a more useable ratio? I would like to order gears to fix it the same time I order the kit. Anything else that needs to be replaced right out of the box?

Nothing wrong with it at all. Traxxas convinced many of the 2speed “need”
With a quality brushless and a proper gear selection (pinion/spur) no advantage has ever been found. My yeti has it , rarely if ever used or needed. These are crawlers, not SC trucks, so no need for stupid speed.

Dig on the other hand is an advantage, sharper turns not to mention setting up a climb,

I found switching mine to 3s, running a hobbywing 1080 and Holmes 35T expert the thing has plenty of speed and is enough of a noticeable change for my liking. My TRX4 on 2s was too fast in high gear

I have an older hobbywing justock 17.5 sensored brushless setup that I want to throw in a kit so I think I'm going to pickup the scx10.3 tonight while its on sale. I have two spektrum sx107 micro servos in my cart with 6" extentions... anything else?

I wouldn’t waste your money on the sx107’s, But that’s just me. A lot of guys are running different servos because the sx107’s last on average about 15 min. As long as you’ve got a good steering servo you should be set.

The servos are fine , if you can accurately set end points.
Mine is set for three position dig, no issues yet, close to 20 full packs through it not a single hiccup

I want to put the order in tonight. What are people doing for the 2 speed and dig servos? I'm open to whatever, and have a hitec 7950 or 7955 for steering.

Lots of guys are running reefs 99’s I think. I’m running align ds450 helicopter servos. 2 speed needs a slight adjustment and I don’t run servo savers just proper epa. I like the align because I run my truck at 7.4v and they’re capable of that. If you look around here you’ll see what other guys are running

Thank you Fricker and mike for your input

No problem, happy building! Not sure how current the manual is, but there’s a thread with the fixes up top.
I just ordered another 10.3 kit myself to build a new rig for my girl.

Ordered! I was originally looking at the SCX10.2 raw builders kit, but by the time you buy wheels and a body you're into it for the same price. Good choice for your girl, it's a good deal right now and you validate my purchase. :flipoff:

Having built a RBK and a couple 10.2’s the quality of the 10.3 is far superior. Some people think the truck is overrated but I enjoy mine for exactly what it is.. a scale trail truck. If you don’t have a tap, get yourself a 3mm x .5mm it will help when you go to mount the shocks and some other odds n ends.

I’ll be ditching the body, wheels and tires. She wants the 73 Bronco body and I’ll put some proline tires on it.

Sweet! Always love ordering a new RC and having a big ol box at your doorstep. I personally just ordered a new rig, lol.

Scx10-3,Gladiator 2 speed transmission.
I’m going to unplug the dig servo. I want to use the 2 speed transmission. What parts do I need. Suggestions for a servo and the mechanism. The servo that comes with the vehicle for dig is junk. It failed in the first hour. Lots of stories about those. I’ve already taken the lock out spacer out of the shift mechanism in the transmission.

That junk servo works great if setup correctly. I’ve used mine as a three position dig, since new. Read your manual to remove spacer and lock out dig. That’s all there it is.

I will add everyone on farcebeek says Reefs is the best in the whole world!
