Jon's SCX24 Rock Buggy

Here are a few pictures of my SCX24 before it became a tube chassis buggy. I picked up a 1/18 scale MiniT Baja Bug body off ebay, and 3D printed some mounting points for it.

I had a Komodo (which I really liked, but had to replace with a Nano Beast because the Komodo was just too big for my buggy.

If anyone wants STL files for the battery trays or the bug body mounts, I'm providing them freely.

Here's a couple pictures of it out crawling in the snow with a friend (who has a 1/10 rig):

It was a nice little machine, and extremely capable (I could keep up with my 1/10 scale trailing buddies without a huge amount of trouble). I just decided to buy a Capra so I could more easily run with all the people in the group, who all run 1/10 scale, and that made me decide that I really like tube chassis buggies.

I'm planning on building up a 1/10 scale version of the SCX24 buggy, although I have to get a brazing torch, and wait until its a little warmer in the garage.

I can only speak for myself, but I love both builds! Baja Bugs Hage always had a special place in my heart.

If you would share the stl files I personally would appreciate it. The saddle battery holders like like the answer to a problem I am getting ready to have, and though I may or may not use them immediately the bug body mounts might be a good thing to have in the library.

You can use an M1.4 screw as the hinge pin.

The hinge mount was designed to work with a stock deadbolt hinge, because that's the only SCX24 I have.

Its been a while, and I've done a few changes to the buggy.

So, first of all, every time I run this on the 1/10 scale rock course, or other places where it can fall onto hard surfaces, I end up breaking the roll cage in a couple specific places:



So I decided to do a little early work on building a partial aluminum roll bage, and just did a hybrid pair of roll bars. I make a couple rod benders:



And bent up a couple roll bars out of solid 1/8" aluminum rod, and 3D printed a new cage with sockets for them to fit into:





Here's a couple shots of the completed changes:





I'm very happy with how this turned out.

Thanks - I'm really happy with how it works now. It just slides over rocks that look like they should stop it dead.

Changed to Trail Kings, running foamless with 30 grams of BBs in each tire.
