Ittybitty's BJV4 XR10

That's more like it!

But one more gripe...I want a pit crew like Michaels too! Otherwise I get nothing unless I win...the pitcrew is a more definite option...

How do the RC4wd gears sound? Do they have a noticable gear mesh sound like the axials? I just installed them in wifes rig but no radio yet to test them out. Noticed that clearance issue too. I think the gears should have the spacer machined in as a lip

I forgot to answer your question from earlier. When I first buttoned up my axles and ran the new gears they were louder than the stock gears, but after a full pack of half to full speed running around the yard as a "break in" and to make sure everything was working correctly they got a lot quieter. I'm not sure if they are quieter, but probably not. They are not noticeably louder though...and I have to say I feel a lot more confident when I pull the trigger now.

Cool. Remember when i posted about my axial machined gears? They were pretty loud but figured it was just machine noise since everything was perfectly setup and quadruple checked. I've beat the crap out of them and they show no signs of use yet.
Makes me more confident too. You should of seen how bound up I was when manuevering a tight crevice last sat. The judges were tripping fully expecting to hear a pop and rig stop. I just kept saying, take it easy, It's bulletproof!

Forgot to tell you that I hired the pit crew for you, limited, and easly. They should make the weekend really exciting and eventful 8)

Good deal...the gears and VP goodies have made it a lot more enjoyable to drive this rig. I can finally stop worrying so much about breaking gears and concentrate on driving more.

Thanks for the crew..."thumbsup"

Just a quick edit...I picked up the VP knuckle weights along with some 585 hubs. I also got one set of additional rings, but since they don't fit with the 585's I'll be ordering some of rob_b's half size spacers with hopes that they will provide the spacing I need to be able to run the extra rings with the DH2's. I have also been busy building another rig (berg) for the fun of it and for my wife to comp with as well as a "loaner" rig for when we have guests at our comps. The last rig I picked up in the process of gathering the parts I wanted was from jeepindoug. It had all sorts of goodies on it that he makes. I really like these titanium ferrules he made so I pulled the 4 from the axle ends on the berg and put them at the chassis ends of the lowers on my XR...now the transition is nice and smooth!

I have also picked up a set of the Ti shafts for the front and rear gears as well as a VP upper link mount for the front axle and a VP servo guard and even a pair of aluminum shock caps. I've been beating on the RC4WD gears for a while now and haven't had any issues. While I had it apart to put the shafts and the upper link mount on I checked all of the gears and found that none of them showed any excessive wear.

I'll be screwing around with the front upper link mount to see where I want my links mounted, but other than that I'm really happy with where this rig is at. I'm also gonna try to make some discs for the SLW's similar to what CI offers for the DH2's and I am currently running in the front. If I can pull off what I'm thinking I'll switch over to SLW's all the way around and probably move all of the weight out of the wheels and onto the knuckle weights.

The driver still needs A LOT of improvement!

Since we all like pictures...here's a recent one...but without the VP upper link mount or the servo guard...

Thanks! "thumbsup" The BJV4 is definitely a good chassis...it has always been really stable for me. The biggest downsides I fight with are the breakover and rollover recovery it provides. The lower links are further apart front to back than chassis like the T1E. I'll admit I do run a Rockshow SS on my berg...I wanted to compare the two side by side...although I know it's not a great comparison being that one is an XR and one is a berg, but I can say that the SS does take care of the breakover and rollover problems. I'm still working on getting it to be as stable as my BJV4 is though...

Either chassis is a great choice...but these are my observations.

what exactly is the advantage of running a berg over the xr? i see a couple guys switching back to berg... i had one and it was nice but i dont ever see myself getting rid of the xr. well unless vp comes out with another moa :ror:

Some guys, like Itty, feel that they can push their Bergs harder than their XR10's. My XR10 on the other hand holds up to my at times, very abusive driving style, when others fail. It always seems to be a bearing problem if they already have all the VP Beef installed. The main difference between me and them is that I paid for ceramic acer bearings in my rig, and they run stock, or .99 cent fast eddy or bocas instead of better quality. 99 cent bearings just ain't gonna cut it the way I drive and under the forces of team brood power.

Some of the others switching back are already hardcore berglars so they are just going back to what they know

This is pretty much whats going on. For me it wasn't that my XR couldn't hold up to it, it's that after going through all of the stock gear failures I just found it hard to trust this rig more than my berg. I've had quite a few sets of berg axles over the past couple years and never had a gear failure. With my newest set I have all of the upgraded gears and shafts so the confidence is much higher.

If I hadn't gotten bored and built the berg I would still be running the XR without a doubt. They are great rigs and do some great work! "thumbsup"

I'm also addicted to this hobby...so I just might come back this direction...ya never know! 8)

I've seen people break Mann gears in their bergs. Any/everything will break, once you push it past it's limit.;-)
