Interest in Rally?

i barely squeezed a 26 into the df ...but it runs....it has ball diffs too...im pretty happy...but the rer one needs to be rebuilt...so its pretty much a spool right now....so ty and rodney todd etc...whats the quintessential up grade for this car...ie what breaks first typically?

They come with ball diffs. The big time upgrade you need to do is replacing the rear differential. With it all the way cranked down like you have it it is going to melt down. The outputs on the rear diff have a plastic plate touching the differential, this heats up and melts to the plastic diff. There are a couple ways to take care of this though. Check out the mod thread in the non crawler section.

I've really done nothing to mine yet. I'll upgrade as I break stuff. Only thing that I have broken on it was the chassis, but that was my fault hitting a concrete drain at full speed. I made a plate to repair it and have not had any issues since. If I were to upgrade things to just upgrade, I would do what Ty has done in his build thread.

Rodney did the same thing as well, nothing. But we did pull his rear diff apart the other day and it was beginning to melt down, there was molten plastic forming on the diff. He probably only had a couple more batteries before the diff blew out.

Oh just got the new RCDriver and look what one of the adds was.

So yes it is nitro and its 8th scale, but it is shaft driven 4 wheel drive and looks beautiful. The tires are asymmetrical Michelin rally tires and the body is a licensed Abu Dhabi Ford Fiesta.

I think I need one and change it over to electric."thumbsup"

Or one more time of Casey driving it. :lmao:

So all this Go-Fast stuff is making me look closer at features on my radio that I never worried about with crawlers. Is their a site that explains things like steering speed, steering EXP, throttle EXP, A.B.S., etc., and why and under what circumstances you would use each?

Also: What's a good road tire for use against Grizz during our lunchtime Auto-Cross sessions

I just use pure skill to win.:ror:

But seriously I have never looked into the controls, before I had crawlers and I had a bunch of "fast" rigs I had crappy radios, so I am in the same boat as you.

I have these for road use on the rally car.
HPI Racing X-Pattern Tires, 26mm

They are really sticky and hook up really well, but you quickly learn about traction rolling and the importance of sway bars.

I like the looks of those...what about wheels though? I'm assuming 1/10th Sedan Wheels, but I see a bunch of different offsets. I want the same stance as the stock Tamiya wheels that are on there now.

I know these will work.
TowerHobbies.com | 51021 Tamiya Wheels Ford Focus '03 WRC

But I have no idea what the offset is. I also run Traxxas grey wide hexs with mine to push the width a little. So with that I imagine something 0-3 offset should work and still look right with the body, but I am not 100% sure.

I have 5-6 different sedan wheels and all of them work, but none of them were labeled for offset when I got them. Most of them were just labeled for rally cars through Tamiya.

I believe that the EXP setting are for how the radio reacts to your input. Basically how your fingers move the wheel and trigger. You can set it for how fast or slow you react to the controls. For example, when I raced touring I set the steering at -25% because I turned the wheel too quick. It's worth messing with and studying your manual.

I've got a bunch of touring tires Juan, I'll bring them down with me. I'm sure I have a good set you could have."thumbsup"

The more I study the manual, the more I realize I won't have to drive at all. Once I get it dialed in, the radio will race for me

I replaced the spur tonight since the one that it came with was bigger than the cover  Totally had the drivetrain locked. This also helped my too tight gear mesh (I was running without the cover when Chris and I were out last week). I also ditched the servo saver and put a horn on. I'm bringing it in to work tomorrow for some lunch time testing...bringing my manual too "thumbsup"

Quick shot from last nights paint session. Nothing special since I hear they get pretty worked. Oh, and thanks a ton Ty I'll get ya Saturday, and also Rodney for being USPS for me."thumbsup" Also took a cue from Van with his overshell, I dug out my old comp Stagekilla body and works perfect.
